Product Development Engineer

Our client is a UK-based company, working closely with their European counterparts to design, develop, and manufacture products for various industries, ranging from automotive to consumer electronics. With two sites, one in Hove and the other in East Sussex, our client has a team of 69 skilled employees in administration, engineering, and production.

About the role:

This is a wonderful opportunity for a Product Development Engineer to join this growing and supportive team in Brighton. Your main purpose will be to design and develop electro-acoustic products to the point of production readiness using skills in electronic hardware and software design, giving technical advice along the way and contributing to solving production problems.

Your key duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

• Develop and produce designs, from initial brief to production.
• Analyse designs using software simulation tools and validate through testing.
• Compile reports and communicate with colleagues and external parties using MS Office 365.
• Advise on manufacturing possibilities, testing fixtures, and equipment maintenance.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety rules and quality management system.
• Participate in new product introduction and meet project deadlines.
• Liaise with customers, suppliers, and internal departments to meet design requirements.
• Research alternative manufacturing techniques and design tools.
• Produce presentations to communicate design intent and assemblies.
• Support engineering change requirements on new and existing products.

Education, training, qualifications and experience required:

The ideal candidate will have a degree or HNC/HND in electronic engineering (analogue and digital electronics preferred). Your knowledge and experience of electronic circuit design, both analogue and digital electronic theory, applications and techniques will help you to hit the ground running.

Hardware:

• Real-world experience in Schematic layout, PCB design, and hardware prototyping.
• Preferred experience with Altium Designer for PCB design.
• Familiarity with PIC18/PIC24/PIC32 microcontrollers, MPLAB IDE, and associated tools.
• Advantageous familiarity with STM32/MSP430 microcontroller knowledge.
• Desirable Nordic NRF52 and other IoT experience.
• Understanding and experience working with various data/signal formats/protocols.
• Good knowledge of power management electronics, battery technology, implementation methods, and practices.

Software:

• Extensive experience in microcontroller programming using C & C++.
• Experience implementing digital communication protocols, such as UART and I2C.
• Good code documentation skills.
• Familiarity with Python programming and scripting.
• Experience with GIT version control and tools like Sourcetree/Bitbucket.

General:

• Experience with single board computers like Raspberry Pi, Beaglebone, Arduino, Jetson Nano, etc.
• Familiarity with computer-based circuit simulation tools such as LTSPICE.
• Experience with Bluetooth/Wi-Fi hardware and software.
• Experience with datalogging databases communications, including SQL servers and IoT dashboards.
