Job Description

Airbus is looking for people who can help ground test and flight test Hydrogen based fuel systems allowing us to bring a Zero emission aircraft to market by 2035 . An exciting role is now available at Airbus, Filton as part of this major initiative towards the decarbonisation of our products and everything we do to produce them.

About us:

We are a community of test engineers who support the safe development, verification, certification and performance improvement of our products for the benefit of our customers. The Filton site has a long and proud history of safely performing fuel system testing in support of the entire commercial aircraft product range, as well as the research necessary to enable all our future product developments.

What will you be doing:

You will join a team charged with designing our strategy for incorporating new sources of clean energy into our aircraft, and putting that strategy into practice in a safe and effective manner. In particular, you will bring a practical knowledge of how to work safely with hydrogen in its various forms, both in isolation, and as part of a mixed industrial environment where kerosene based products could also be present. Knowledge and understanding of regulations will be essential. You will demonstrate that all risks have been considered and mitigated to allow the safe testing on multiple rigs examining the storage and distribution of gaseous and liquid hydrogen. You will have the satisfaction of seeing your contribution reflected in real world testing and experiences contributing to our understanding and use of this critical technology.

Main Activities:

Adapting to rapidly changing understanding on the use of hydrogen in a safe manner in the aviation industry;
Maintain up to date knowledge of standards and regulations relating to the safe and environmentally correct use of hydrogen;
Training and educating teams with different backgrounds on hydrogen use and safety;
Justifying and explaining the basis for your decisions;
Implementing strategic purchasing, training, and recruitment decisions;
Working with with suppliers to procure, install, operate and maintain equipment safely; and,
Foster a safety mindset in a new working environment.

About you, You have:

Knowledge and experience of working with hydrogen in an industrial environment;
Experience in the development of safety and environmental processes and documentation (such as, but not limited to: risk assessments, safe systems of work, safety audits);
Ongoing membership of the Hydrogen engineering community, links to other practitioners and organisations that contribute to achievement of safe working operations;
An understanding of the commonalities and differences between UK, Europe, and the rest of theworld's hydrogen working practices;
A curiosity about new technologies
Aviation/Fuel Systems/Engine experience not essential but beneficial.
