Engineering Team Leader

Would you like to play a key role managing the study and development of equipment simulations for the Training Services Group (TSG)? We currently have a vacancy for an Engineering Team Leader at our site in Portsmouth Broad Oak.

As an Engineering Team Leader, you will be providing shore-based Warfare Operator Training for Frigates, Destroyers and other major warships and supporting future capability demonstrations, integration facilities and training initiatives.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to progress into an Engineering Manager role, with the opportunity to work from home with a requirement to visit sites across the UK (Broad Oak, subcontractor and customer)

Your main responsibilities as an Engineering Team Leader will involve:

Planning and supervising the work of a team of engineers to deliver TSG study and development milestones

Planning and supervising the work of a team of engineers to support TSG product development including the introduction of new technologies, e.g. virtualisation

Planning and supervising the deployment of complex integrated systems based at BAE Systems and Customer sites

Directing work assignments, scheduling, and reviews of work in progress

Handling personnel actions including performance reviews, salary recommendations, and co-ordination of training and development

Reviewing technical feasibility of proposed solutions to engineering problems

Leading acceptance activities at BAE Systems and Customer sites for equipment developments

Studying and supporting Bid work including report writing, presenting and estimating

Developing and maintaining effective relationships with project stakeholders which includes the customer, sub-contractors and suppliers.

Please note, this role will require some travel within the UK

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

Hold a relevant STEM qualification or experience

Full responsibility for leading a number of small engineering teams in Systems, Software, Hardware and Training disciplines

Ability to manage systems and software development and integration activities within a large multi-site facility

Understanding of systems and software engineering concepts and principals

Ability to present engineering and technical subjects to a number of different internal and external stakeholders

Able to handle work packages at different stages

Desirable:

Experience of RN Training Systems

Experience of estimates and bids

You will have excellent problem-solving skills and be a self-starter. This will allow you to identify and prioritise tasks towards and agreed overall objective.

You will also have good diplomacy and interpersonal skills; this will ensure your professional approach when engaging with a wide range of stakeholders. Furthermore you will have a good awareness of emerging technologies through keeping up to date with advancements in the field.
