What is the purpose of this role?

We deliver a range of waste services from our 400 acre Waste Management Park at Waterbeach – about three miles north of Cambridge. The site has a range of services including:
• A state-of-the-art materials recycling facility (MRF), which can process mixed recyclable materials from households and businesses
• Mechanical Biological Treatment facility – this takes all of Cambridgeshire’s residual (black bag) waste
• Composting

Your role within the Park will be to provide efficient and effective weighbridge operation for the facility ensuring that all vehicles carrying waste or recyclables are weighed on entering and exiting the facility in compliance with all statutory regulations and requirements, whilst also delivering key administration tasks such as accurately completing all associated weigh documentation.

What will this role involve?

In this role you will have regular contact with employees at all levels across the business so youn will will need to develop key relationships with the station Transfer Site Manager, senior managers and other employees in the business on compliance, Training, policies, programmes and projects.

Other duties will include:

Customer
- To respond to public, trade and other queries directly and by telephone in a pleasant and efficient manner.
- Maintain the best operational relationship between the public, other customers and client representatives.
- Deal courteously with complaints and enquiries.

Financial
- Ensure acceptance of waste complies with Duty of Care and Special Waste Regulations where appropriate.
- To undertake routine computer and weighbridge alterations or adjustments where possible to do so in accordance with Amey procedures.

Safety and Operations
- Act as a personal role model to colleagues in driving adherence to core procedures, policies and systems
- Undertake the operation of the weighbridge and accompanying general administrative duties including recording weights & waste type by vehicle, whilst ensuring completion of the appropriate documentation in line with Environmental Regulations, as and when required.
- Ensure Waste Acceptance Criteria is adhered to at all times
- To comply with all Quality Management Systems, quality procedures and working practices

People and Processes
- Engage collaboratively with the team to deliver and improve service and reinforce Amey’s culture and values.
- Efficiently input data onto the weighbridge from vehicles collecting/delivering to the site
- Represent Amey’s values and act as a personal role model when communicating with new clients.
- Ensure all site visitors have received full Health & Safety induction and are wearing the correct PPE
- To set the weighbridge and on-site computer in accordance with written procedures

Learning and Development
- Fully understand Amey’s policies and procedures.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for someone experienced in weighbridge operations who can also demonstrate the following skills and experience:

Qualifications
- Ideally NVQ level 3 qualification in a relevant area or experience in a waste related environment (Technical/Administrative)

Skills
- Dealing with the Public.
- Provide statistical information
- Handling and processing auditable information
- Weighbridge operation
- Working knowledge of waste Duty of Care

Experience
- Customer service background would be desirable.
- Experience of maintaining compliance of paperwork.
- Experience of dealing with customer complaints and escalating appropriately
- Environmental Legislation

Technical competences
- Sound safety knowledge to undertake the duties associated with the role including an understanding of close call reporting.
- Basic numeracy, literacy and IT skills. Understanding risk assessments / safe systems of work and working in accordance with them.

Behavioural competencies
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
- Good numeric skills
- Good organisational skills - able to plan and prioritise own work
- Able to work effectively alone or as part of a team
- Treat Company property with respect ensuring that no damage is caused, with subsequent costs being incurred by the contract
- Deliver a safe, efficient and effective service, achieving targeted productivity, KPI and safety performance
- Engage collaboratively with the team to deliver and improve the service, and reinforce Amey’s cultures and values
- Deal courteously with complaints and enquiries
- Positively participate in team meetings/safety briefings
