What is the purpose of the role?

You will need to take into consideration risk, whole life cost and performance requirements of assets in various stages of the asset life cycle. By developing strategic asset investment plans through the use of innovative methods and decision support tools, you will target appropriate investment and optimise investment scenarios for business planning cycles in accordance with regulatory guidelines. In this role, you will be the expert in the area of responsibility both internally and externally to Thames Water.

What makes this role unique?

This is a central role that operates across the business including regular contact with the senior leadership team. You will also work with external stakeholders including Regulators, UKWIR, Water UK and other best practice organisation.

What will this role involve?

Direct the development of required activities across the Wastewater Wholesale business to achieve the strategy, improve efficiency and meet regulatory and statutory requirements.

Ensure all areas are aligned behind the business targets.

Where appropriate, manage a small team of professional technical staff, to achieve the specified aims of the business.

Identify and contribute to the development of decision support tools (DSTs) and models (risk, performance, deterioration, resilience and costs) required to support and develop the sewerage network service and asset plans.

Ensure the DSTs align with the IS/Data strategy. Be a principal contact with Ofwat, Environment Agency, Defra, enforcement authority etc. in the wastewater network area.

Full undertaking of regulatory and legal framework in this area. Lead and/or support regulatory responses related to wastewater network, including consultation responses, Annual Return and CC Water submissions.

Involvement in advancement of the strategic intent of the business through internal senior management involvement, working groups, steering groups through Alliance and Functional teams, and external working groups, seminars etc.

Demonstrate a class leading / best practice approach in implementing the Build and Optimise assets process for sewerage network assets.

Develop optimised scenarios for service and asset investment plans for PR19 that deliver the customer and stakeholder expectations.

Develop an industry-leading approach to catchment management and work with the London 2100 team.

Sponsor the Alliance partners to implement the catchment studies, drainage strategies, infiltration reduction plans and influence external stakeholders to contribute to multi-party solutions.

Lead and develop the team, working to improve employee engagement and ensuring that health, safety and wellbeing are a priority.

Maintain close relationship with CFS (Wastewater Operations) to ensure they support and adherence to wastewater business infrastructure strategy.

What are we looking for?

The ideal candidate for this role would have a relevant degree and/or professional qualification or membership. Typically at least 5/10 years' experience in asset management or operations in a wastewater company or other related business environment would be advantageous to the role. We are looking for someone who has awareness of risk management processes and proven project management and financial management acumen. Proven track record of people management and the ability to network with people from across the business is required. Excellent verbal and written communication and influencing skills are essential for the role. You will be present in meetings with decision makers in the business and it is important that you can confidently deliver and present and also being able to challenge effectively will be a big part of this role. Data analysis and attention to detail is important - the role is central in annual returns to Ofwat and audits. However, being adaptable to change and ever changing workloads is essential. The role is very unique within the business. Being positive, self-motivated, able to adapt to, and resolve, business challenges is key to success in this role. The ideal candidate will also be fully competent at using the appropriate Company IT systems and office software.

Thames Water information and salary details

This role will be based in Reading and is offering a salary from £48,000 depending on experience. On top of our competitive salary package, you will also receive a competitive bonus, car allowance, private healthcare and an industry leading pension scheme.
