Our expanding waste management team in AECOM’s London, UK office is looking for an experienced Waste Management Consultant to further enhance our capabilities. This is an exciting opportunity to help develop and diversify our team’s capabilities in the south, whilst strengthening working relationships with the wider waste team located in our midlands and northern offices. The successful candidate will assist with a range of project work waste management projects in London and throughout the UK.
Previous experience is required, and ideally the candidate should be working towards Chartered status with a relevant institution, such as the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM). The successful candidate will be able to assist with a range of projects including urban regeneration projects, waste facility auditing, policy appraisal and waste permitting amongst other opportunities. In addition, expertise in other areas of waste management is desirable and the successful candidate will be encouraged and supported to explore new markets.
Being accountable for the safe, ethical and profitable delivery of projects to a high technical and quality standard;
The production of a range of deliverables including: waste audits, operational waste and recycling strategies, assessment chapters for environmental statements and construction resource management plans;
Liaising with clients, architects, planners and local authorities;
Researching waste management practices;
Travelling to meetings and other AECOM offices;
Business development, proposal writing and exploration of new work streams; and
To be successful you will have strong development skills, the technical ability, knowledge and competence that are appropriate for your career experience. The position will suit a person who can work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary design team and understands the importance of delivering work packages on time and within budget.
Minimum requirements include:
Able to demonstrate an experience and knowledge of waste and resource management – experience in the planning sector is desirable;
Experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams, liaising with project managers and managing smaller independent projects;
Experience of delivering to budget and on time;
Knowledge of MS work packages including word and excel; and
Strong analytical skills.
The following candidate attributes are highly desirable and would be a distinct advantage:
Working towards Chartered status with a relevant institution (CIWM).
Project management training and qualifications
Experience of work winning, proposal writing and business development
Experience of waste permitting;
Experience of undertaking waste audits – particularly in relation to Duty of Care;
Knowledge of the circular economy and waste minimisation from the design stage of new developments; and
Basic knowledge of AutoCAD and/or understanding of architectural layouts.
An undergraduate degree in a relevant environmental/science discipline is required; and
A Masters degree in a relevant discipline is highly desirable
