This role is offered on a Fixed-Term contract for up to 12 months to cover maternity leave and can be based in any Alstom UK Engineering office - York, Liverpool, Radlett, Birmingham, Derby. There will be a requirement for travelling to other sites
The Validation and Verification (V&V) Management Lead Engineer is based at one of our various locations around the UK, leading the V&V management activities across the signalling project portfolio. The V&V Management Lead Engineer will be the UK process correspondent for V&V management and will ensure that the V&V processes are embedded across the business. The role also has a multifunctional dimension leading the implementation and supporting the project and design engineering teams with the V&V management throughout the project life cycle
These projects use the wide range of Alstom signalling technologies including the SMARTLOCK interlocking system, Modular Control Systems , VHLC and Electrologix systems and trackside modules including smart I/O. Our projects are multidiscipline, complex and are strategically important to our clients. Our engineering teams are supporting some of the most significant projects within the UK

The V&V management Lead Engineer will manage and undertake the required system engineering activities by leading the implementation of the V&V processes across the Alstom project portfolio, also liaising with the process owner based in Alstom’s corporate centre as well cooperating with the V&V management global community. The role also has a requirement to, where work is sub contracted, ensure system V&V are managed and controlled in line with the Alstom process
The role requires that support is provided to the project engineering and design staff to enable them to capture and manage project V&V within the approved Alstom tool set and to ensure that V&V management is also implemented in accordance with the Alstom process and tool set. As the V&V Management Lead Engineer you will be responsible for ensuring that project and design staff are trained in the V&V management processes and associated tools
The role requires implementation of the organisation’s system engineering management processes with the project and design teams across multiple sites as required. This will involve supporting the project and design engineering teams with technical guidance, leadership and monitoring of the Alstom V&V tools set and processes. Supporting to develop project technical instructions to enable the projects V&V activities to be formally documented
Furthermore, mentoring, coaching and training non-project staff when required on the use of tools and process to support the development of formal V&V management within the UK environment

The V&V Management Lead Engineer reports to the Signalling Software and Tools Manager within the engineering structure, the role will require work to be executed across the company’s project portfolio
You’ll be required to train staff on the Alstom V&V tool set and defines staff competence. Supporting Design and Project Engineering staff to capture project V&V and effectively implement the process using the approved Alstom tool set. Set up and define the V&V management structure in line with the Alstom approved processes and using the approved tool set during the tender phase, update upon contract award and maintain the requirement management throughout the project life cycle
To meet the key deliverables of the role the V&V Management Lead Engineer shall be responsible for the following tasks:

* Produce the project V&V management plan
* Create and maintain the project in the approved V&V management tools
* Perform key user duties for requirement management tool
* Analyse the stakeholder needs and expectations to establish the requirement’s for a system
* Liaise with client at various levels and the system design authority to confirm system requirement’s

* Work with the requirements and configuration & change management leader to assign requirement’s to correct subsystem and maintain traceability record
* Ensure submitted entries are correctly populated and defined
* Setup plan and facilitate requirement’s coordination meetings particularly between subsystems and interfaces
* Verify that requirement’s and changes are clearly recorded with any supporting information documented/traceable
* Support the production of the verification and validation reports

* Confirm discipline CRE is recording V&V information correctly, adequately defined, categorized
* Confirm issues are being actioned / progressed

* Provide project requirement’s management progress reports / KPI reports
* Provide requirement’s management training as required

* Undertake the duty of process correspondent for requirement’s management

You’ll be required to support the Competence Manager with the execution of the internal competence management scheme. Undertake mentorship, coaching and give seminars to support the succession planning throughout the Engineering business

Qualifications - Essential

* Degree or equivalent Engineering Qualification

Experience - Essential

* Excellent communications and IT skills are required
* Previous experience of working within a systems engineering process environment is essential
* Experience of applying RSSB, Network Rail and Industry recognised standards

* Team management skills are required


* Knowledge of GB Mainline, signalling design, installation or testing, with knowledge of railway construction methods and materials used is desirable
* Use of database software (such as DOORS/Reqtify)

* Knowledge of Alstom processes and procedures
