What is the purpose of the role?
This is a key role dealing with the integration of trunk main monitoring units into the business and the maximising of the benefits Thames Water realise from these systems. Trunk main monitoring is a key part of Thames Water's strategy for managing the risk of leaks and bursts on our network of trunk mains (large diameter water pipes). You will manage the relationship between Thames Water and the two current suppliers of trunk main monitoring systems, acting as the focal point for conversations relating to the targeting, installation, upgrade, maintenance and operation of these units. You will be key to the development and communication of a clear strategy which ensures that Thames Water maximises the benefit to the business from existing and new installations. This will include project managing the improvement plan across 2018/19 and beyond.
What makes this role unique?
Working with the relevant strategy lead, in this post you will be utilising your network experience and technical skills to develop the strategy for trunk main monitoring in Thames and be responsible for the communication of this strategy to internal and external stakeholders. You will need direct involvement with others across the business, from SPI to operations to delivery teams, and ensure that the strategy is well understood and that feedback is captured, leading to continued improvements in the benefits Thames Water realise from trunk main monitoring. You will be engaging with the suppliers to drive improvements to their products and working with the contracts manager to ensure that contracted output and performance levels are met by suppliers. There will be substantial exposure to many teams across the business, so you will be in the position to influence decisions in Thames Water relating to this critical area of investment. As this is a cross-cutting coordination role, much of what you deliver will be through others without having direct managerial control of them.
What will this role involve?
Ownership of our relationship with our suppliers of trunk main monitoring equipment, driving improvements to both the products and their use in the business.
You will be the principal point of contact for the suppliers for technical issues and will need to actively work with many different projects and departments to ensure a coordinated delivery strategy for all of the workstreams; acting as the single voice of Thames Water on critical issues.
Engagement with our Asset Management team, delivery alliances, maintenance and Operations teams, acting as the principle point of contact for issues relating to trunk main monitoring.
Technical lead for framework agreements (contracts) relating to trunk main monitoring units.
Project management of the activities relating to trunk main monitoring units contained in the Trunk Main Strategic Review, and an ongoing improvement plan.
What are we looking for?
Degree-educated, we would also expect the successful candidate to have relevant experience gained through the design, operation or maintenance of water network assets. This is a technical position, requiring you to be able to manage numerous concurrent issues and understand their potential impact, both on stakeholders and the business's performance measures, both in-AMP and beyond. Alongside these technical skills, the ability to build and maintain relationships with different stakeholders within the business is critical in order to understand asset performance issues and gain asset operational intelligence. Driven and with a good level of personal resilience, you will also be a confident and effective communicator, able to represent Thames Water both internally and externally if required. You will have strong influencing, negotiating, analytical and report writing skills.
