Position Title Transport Planning Consultant

Job Summary

Due to a number of key recent wins and excellent forward prospects we are looking to recruit a Consultant Transport Planner to join our expanding transport planning team in Leeds. This role requires an individual with the drive to succeed in the transport consultancy environment and the ability to undertake technically challenging work. The key role would be to support our transport planning and policy capability.

Work would include scheme identification, scheme prioritisation, business case development, preparation of funding bids, development of transport policies and strategies and development of sustainable transport policies and statements. This is an exciting opportunity to join an accomplished team and work on a range of projects for a wide variety of clients, including Department for Transport, Highways Agency, West Yorkshire Combined Authority, South Yorkshire PTE and other Local Authorities.

The Leeds office has an established track record of successfully delivering a wide variety of projects to both local and national clients. Our modern office is based in Leeds City Centre and accommodates a multidisciplinary team both across the transportation disciplines and the wider AECOM offer.

The transport planning team in Leeds comprises individuals with a wide range of capabilites. The diversity of skills means that they are able to service the majority of local client needs with support from specialists from the wider AECOM transport planning business. The team is involved in local, national and international projects with a variety of clients. The multi-disciplinary nature of the office also means that we are able to develop project teams from disciplines wider than transport planning to offer clients a true ‘one stop shop’.

Projects:

A list of projects that the transport planning team have recently completed or currently engaged on includes:

*

Assessment of the benefits and impacts the proposed Leeds Trolley Bus scheme using a transport model which AECOM had previously developed;

*

Development of a strategic Land Use / Transportation model for assessing the economic impacts from major investment proposals across Sheffield City Region;

*

Transport assessments of Local Development Frameworks;

*

Development of Route Based Strategies for a number of motorway routes;

*

Ashington, Blyth and Tyne Rail Link Scheme Business Case;

*

Calderdale Corridor Studies

*

Halifax Town Centre scheme development, business case and implementation

*

Transport modelling and business case support for various West Yorkshire Plus Transport Fund schemes

*

Transport for the North

Job responsibilities:

*

Undertake work as directed by and agreed with project managers in accordance with relevant Standards and Codes of Practice

*

Present for approval to the Project Manager or Team Leader, models, reports and any outputs prepared in connection with the project

*

Attend team and client meetings as appropriate

*

Liaise with sub-consultants and check any information received

*

Liaise with other Consultants

*

Supervise work undertaken by more junior members of the team

*

Prepare technical reports and ensure they are properly checked and verified

*

Send reports or other documentation to external parties

*

Understand the basis of fees and costs

*

Understand own contribution and impact on projects and develop an awareness of the implications for projects through the project management system

*

Work within the financial and programme constraints and consider financial implications in completing work

*

Contribute and provide information for fee proposals

*

Understand and implement the Company’s Health and Safety Policy and be responsible for own health & safety and act responsibly in respect of others health & safety.

*

Understand and implement other company policies including environmental matters

*

Attending all training and obtain all required certification for the role

Minimum Requirements

*

You will have excellent technical and communication skills along with a strong numerical capability.

*

Experience in the use of standard Microsoft Office software is essential.

*

Candidates should have 3 - 8 years experience of working in a transport planning related field.

*

Some knowledge of transport modeling and scheme appraisal methods would be useful

Preferred Qualifications

* You will be educated to degree/masters level in a relevant discipline and prepared to work towards professional accreditation such as TPP or CIHT.
