About the Department

SSE Enterprise Contracting is one of the UK's largest Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) contractors with a product/service portfolio ranging from M&E LV, HV, Instrumentation, Street Lighting, Facilities Management through to Combined Heat and Power solutions.

What is the Role?

Thanks to continued growth and exciting development plans in the West Sussex County Council FM Contract, we have an opportunity for an experienced Contract Engineer to join our team based from Chichester.

You'll be involved in a set 2-year training plan consisting of academic learning and training modules. You will be supporting our Contracts Engineers on live projects and taking on your own projects to develop the skills, experience and methods of Contract and Project Management of multiple Building Services projects from conception to completion. This will be inclusive of the following to ensure all safety, quality, technical and commercial requirements are met:

- Engineering support to estimators and bid teams

- Design development

- Client management and development

- SHE management, project planning and operational delivery

- Setting to work and management of on-site teams

- Contract, Financial and Cost Management

You'll plan and organise all types of project and maintenance works on the West Sussex estate to meet customer requirements in accordance with Company safety and maintenance standards. You'll monitor the work of direct staff and contractors engaged on all types of Capex, repair and maintenance projects to ensure the safe and efficient completion of projects.

What do I need?

To be successful in this role, you'll have sound HV and LV electrical knowledge and will be familiar with working in a variety of buildings.

You'll have an electrical background, industry and technical knowledge, encompassing a range of contracting activities and enthusiasm to help grow our business. You'll have a basic understanding to identify, quote and manage project contracts and will be able to negotiate with clients to secure profitable business. You will be provided training to develop your project delivery skills. You will learn to apply financial and budgetary controls so that maximum profit is received, whilst managing quality, safety and planning of the work. You'll also have a working knowledge of the CDM regulations, in addition to general office applications including MS Excel. You'll be committed to continuous improvement and be able to get excellent results through the team and others around you.

Key skills for the role include but are not limited to being IT literate to a suitable level, financial management skills and awareness, a strong SHE industry knowledge and culture, be self-motivated as well as a strong team player and be enthusiastic, innovative and open take on new challenges.

A full UK driving licence is also essential to enable you to cover the network area.
