This role provides a diverse and exciting range of opportunities, undertaking Independent Nuclear Safety and Technical assessment to support the safe operation of all classes of UK submarines across the entire plant life cycle. From initial concept design through to plant life extension and subsequent decommissioning, this work presents interesting and unique technical challenges and therefore requires a strong commitment to deliver robust safety assurance services to the Ministry of Defence in support of the UK’s defence requirements including Continuous At Sea Deterrent.

About Wood Nuclear:

Wood’s nuclear business supports customers in the energy generation, new build, decommissioning and defence sectors.

Our nuclear business has offices in Knutsford and Birchwood in Cheshire, Gloucester, Gloucestershire, Dorchester, Harwell, Glasgow, Newcastle, Bristol, Cumbria, Reading and London. We also have a strong international presence to support our growing operations in France, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, South Africa and Japan.

Our reputation for safely delivering quality projects on time and on budget is well recognised in the industries we serve. We have proven expertise in managing large, complex projects, a global reach and long-standing UK presence, strong relationships with our clients and cutting-edge processes and technologies.

The Thermal-Hydraulics Assessment team within NS&E supports INA by undertaking independent nuclear safety and technical assessments of naval nuclear propulsion plant. This role will be of particular interest to candidates with experience in thermal hydraulic modelling who are seeking to broaden their knowledge of the application of codes within design and safety cases. Although knowledge of naval nuclear propulsion plant is desirable, applications from less experienced candidates and those currently employed within the civil nuclear industry will be considered. Applicants with thermal analysis experience from other industries are also welcomed as comprehensive training will be provided for all successful candidates.

Wood is committed to the continuing professional development of all our staff and NS&E supports other teams within the company, who undertake work for a wide range of civil nuclear customers involved in nuclear new build, operation and decommissioning. Opportunities to develop expertise in these areas is also possible. This role therefore presents opportunities for a wide range of candidates; from those wishing to broaden their existing experience and knowledge further, to those who wish to establish a strong foundation for a rewarding career in the nuclear industry.
