Job Description

We are looking for a 'Prepare for Test Manager' to join Airbus Defence & Space in Portsmouth. You will join our Telecom Payload System Engineering Management team, integrated within our Space Engineering group and supporting the Telecom Business Line.

The Telecom Payload System Engineering team is a centre of competence gathering expertise in RF Systems; Electrical Systems; Mechanical & Thermal Systems and EMC. We provide engineering support to the Portsmouth-based Telecom Payload Team.

The team contributes to the delivery of Telecom payloads flying on Eurostar, OneSat and other third party platforms, as well as supporting studies, R&D and proposals.

The main objective of the role is to coordinate the preparation and the execution of the test phases for Payloads flying on Eurostar or OneSat platforms, picking up the project after the Preliminary Design Review / Customisation Close Out (i.e. after the Validation Philosophy and Test Plan have been formally accepted by the customer) and leading the implementation of the Payload Test campaign until the completion of the Spacecraft TVAC.

You will work closely with the Payload (PL) V&V Manager and support the PL Engineering Manager throughout the project lifecycle. You will interface with several key stakeholders of the project, predominantly the Assembly, Integration & Test group (AIT) and the Software Project Manager.

Tasks and Responsibilities



Manage the preparation of all test phases: starting with electrical integration, through section test (including baseline), then continuing with satellite level PL tests in TVAC



Lead activities in all groups involved in preparation of PL test: AIT (test operations; AIT engineering; test systems); PL system engineering (inputs to AIT; predicts / masks; results review and results reporting, electrical inputs, RF parameters for test); Software teams (for payload and processor configuration deliverables and for all EGSE components); as required: providers of subsystems needed for the test solution delivery (such as CPG for EQM DSP or DSP emulators for instance)



Join the project at the customisation close-out and builds up on the PL Validation strategy established by the PL V&V manager



Establish a clear development plan for all inputs needed per test phase and track the deliverables from one entity to the next



Formal acceptance of the test solution on behalf of Telecom



Monthly reporting for all on-going projects going through the ‘prep for test’ phase



Management of non-compliance / issues and non-quality during test campaign

Your role will include periods supporting test campaigns both on our Toulouse site and on suppliers /customers sites around the world.

Required Skills and Experience



Experience in Test, Validation and Verification of similar complex Engineering projects



Technical leadership of complex / advanced systems



Knowledge of System Engineering: from design to manufacturing and test



Good appreciation of relevant domains: RF communication engineering, RF Instruments; Test Equipment and Test technique, Mechanical and Thermal systems



Understanding of equipment fitted to the satellite payload such as receivers, converters, amplifiers, waveguides and antennas
