What is the purpose of the role?
We are seeking a technical operational process lead to be a key point of expertise and advisor to a range of process improvements across water production. This newly created role will sit within the Technical Excellence Department, responsible for defining the optimisation programme activity to deliver operational excellence benefits and aid Water Production in achieving their three key objectives across the coming years; maintain water quality compliance, promote system resilience and drive cost efficiencies ensuring value-for-money for our customers.
You will be expected to carry out end-to-end analysis and documentation of key operational processes, offering solutions and recommendations to make improvements and process changes in an innovative and effective way. You will drive optimisation and compliance, improve the technical knowledge with operational teams and be the specialist within your field. Due to the nature of the role, regular travel across your patch will be required however you can be based from any of our key sits including; Fobney, Farmoor, Coppermills, Orpington, Ashford Common or Hampton.

This is an exciting role for a passionate and highly knowledgeable individual to identify areas of improvement and help develop the wider operational teams across their region. You will support in ensuring the health of our Thames Water assets, ensuring they are operated and maintained to business standards. You will gain exposure to a range of operational activities, engaging with a range of stakeholders to enhance your knowledge of water production. You will attend a range of meetings, recommend new technologies for processes as well as driving consistency across the entirety of the region alongside your colleagues.
What will this role involve?
Engage with operations, contractors and process leads, building rapport and improving their own technical understanding.
Carry out compliance assurance, risk assessments, troubleshooting and recovery and failure investigation.
Analyse any operational faults, utilising techniques such as failure modes effects analysis and root cause analysis, introducing efficiencies and process improvement recommendations. Identify compliance risks and implement remediation measures to avoid reoccurrence.
Work alongside other Technical Process Leads, to promote the continuous improvement mind set across teams, sharing best practice and event learning.
Process Optimisation - review and implement changes to the water production process to ensure the process is fully optimised throughout the year.
Driving the strategic system view to ensure we are maximising our most efficient assets.
Develop more efficient data analysis to enable more proactive risk management of works.
Provide technical detail to help develop business cases, understanding and articulating the relationship between cost and risk.
Be the technical subject matter expert for key processes, contributing to asset standards and process working groups.
What are we looking for?
Do you have experience in a compliance and technical process improvement role? If so, we are seeking a technically experienced process lead who demonstrates capability in reviewing and implementing process improvements within a highly regulated environment. Previous experience using Lean, Kaisen, EoW techniques are fundamental and previous experience in the water industry would be highly advantageous. If you have a HNC/Degree (or equivalent) in a Scientific or Engineering discipline, this would be beneficial. Practical experience in an operational engineering role, with an understanding of service delivery challenges would be considered. Demonstrable experience in process or continuous improvement would be favourable, you must feel confident communicating at all levels and across various formats. Travel to multiple sites across your assigned region will be required so a full, UK driving licence is essential. A company car or car allowance is available.
Thames Water information and salary details
This role is offering a salary of up to £44,000 depending on skills and experience. It can be based from any of our key sits including; Fobney, Farmoor, Coppermills, Orpington, Ashford Common or Hampton.
