This role is responsible for leading the development of power electronics part of the power architecture in the electrical platform including development of new features including exploring new voltage standards, power conversion circuits such as DCDC, energy storage devices like supercapacitors, use of IGBTs/MOSFETS to replace relays, fuses, etc. as well as establishing power standards, power management strategy across the vehicle, performance characteristics and overall validation strategy.
The primary responsibility is to ensure that we create, develop and deliver the most efficient power architecture to maximise electric vehicle range and reduce combustion engine vehicle emissions, whilst supporting current and future vehicle features, functions and technology requirements. The role will include the architect of new features (hardware and software) to meet energy usage targets and lead teams to develop and implement new features such as power conversion circuits e.g. DC/DC, AC/DC and DC/AC converters, energy storage devices like super-capacitors, filters, isolation protection, multi-phase power control.
The position is also responsible for to lead the creation and maintenance of test procedures and test cases for introducing new power features onto electrical/ electronic and mechatronic components and systems. In addition to lead the development of new voltage standards and conduct necessary validation with cross functional teams in wiring systems to detect and analyse issues such as inrush current, arc mitigation strategies, chassis ground, corrosion, etc.
The successful candidate will be able to lead, mentor and support a team of engineers within a technically complex environment. You will have the technical responsibility in delivering an electrical commodity for the future of Jaguar Land Rover’s electrified powertrain.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
You will have the extensive technical knowledge of power architecture with hands-on practical experience of working with DC-DC converters. In addition, you will have experience with power sub-system design: filters, multi-phase power control, isolation, protection circuits, magnetics, relay systems, stress analysis. Involvement in applying Systems Engineering in solving complex technical issues using a structured approach is required for this opportunity.
Ideally you will possess either a Masters or PhD in Electrical Engineering with a focus on power electronics, or a relevant field. In addition, has worked outside an Automotive OEM and able to bring fresh/ alternative technical and business insights.
