You'll be joined by hundreds of skilled experts, collaborating over the entire lifecycle of a project – from idea, concept and design, to operation and maintenance within our portfolio of tunnels & underground structures, bridges, complex structures, ground engineering and reclamation projects.

DESIGN THE FUTURE WITH A GLOBAL TEAM OF EXPERTS

As a Technical Director, you'll be part of COWI UK’s bridge engineering group, working on design, checking or assessment projects across a wide range of both new and existing bridges or other complex structures. Working closely with our Project and Technical Directors you'll be a visible custodian of our technical expertise helping to establish best-practice, lead innovation, develop our technical staff and ensure we remain at the leading-edge of our profession.

On a day-to-day basis, you'll be responsible for:

* Providing high-quality technical leadership across a range of current projects assigned to you, and internal expertise into others as required

* Technical custodianship of one or more bridge engineering competencies, developing and ensuring consistent application of best practice across projects and leading on technical innovations

* Mentoring and developing engineering staff in your areas of expertise, including developing and delivering training, undertaking knowledge-sharing activities and supporting succession planning in your area.

* Promoting our position as an industry leader within your area through involvement in relevant industry bodies, technical publication, and facilitating the same in others

* Technical approval of designs, check or assessment deliverables on your projects in accordance with internal management systems

* Supporting pursuit of relevant business development opportunities and input into bids and tenders as required.

* Be a chartered civil or structural engineer (MICE, MIStructE or equivalent), with potential to become FICE or FIStructE if you are not already, and a track record of involvement within the wider profession.

* Have extensive experience in a design environment working on major or complex bridges in the UK or internationally at a senior/leadership level.

* Have significant experience leading project teams and managing the technical delivery of projects, either as client's or contractor's designer, ideally both.

* Be an accomplished talent developer, with demonstrable ability to support, mentor and develop less experienced engineers.

* Have the inter-personal skills and aptitude to work collaboratively in a diverse multi-disciplinary team.

* Have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and able to communicate across the business and externally at all levels.

* Be a technically outstanding engineer, able to demonstrate a deep understanding and passion for structural engineering and a personal commitment to technical excellence.
