The Technical Administrator will provide day to day management and handling of various tasks and components that support the Informatics Engineering group’s customer facing applications. The scope extends to technical support of some elements of connectivity to and from Abbott medical instruments over complex network systems, including cellular.

Supporting applications and communications devices in over 40 countries the role includes working with regional teams to implement new systems and applications as designed by the ARDx Informatics Engineering team.


Overall management of Purchase Order process including the review and approval of Invoices received, tracking of spend and reporting.

Own the day-to-day relationship, and contract management with our various providers/partners both Internal and External to Abbott

Monitoring of platform transmission queues, automated error messages and alerts.

Management of Suppliers and Agreements covering areas such as hardware, software and Telecoms.

Day to day management of the Machine to Machine (M2M) communication SIM estate.


Coordinate Language Translations required for oUS Engineering outputs, Manage relationship with suppliers

Liaison with other Abbott-based services: e.g. IT, HR, Finance, Legal etc.

Liaise with other resources to progress changes/updates and track them through the process.

Order and manage supplies for department test instruments.

Coordinate and facilitate meetings and arrangements for the oUS Engineering team where necessary.

Keep standard team presentations up to date.


Contribute to the process of publishing instructions and training documents.

Contribute to overall Engineering effort, including Design, Testing and Support of Informatics products.

Assist with active investigation failures, performance, and capacity trends.

Involvement in maintaining and upgrading hardware and software platforms and implementation of new systems as required by the business.

Component connectivity device selection, appraisal, configuration, and testing.

Comply with all appropriate Abbott Quality systems and processes.

Provide feedback into R&D for the design of new solutions and features.

Maintain confidentiality of any information being processed, stored, or accessed by Abbott Informatics solutions

This position is part of the global Abbott R&D Informatics Connectivity Team, which reports to the Informatics Connectivity Solutions Manager.

Qualifications and education requirements

Previous administrative experience
Secondary/High School qualifications or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Some IT qualification (e.g. ITIL, MCSE) would be desirable
Understanding of Project Management methodologies
Understanding of accounting and purchasing methodologies
Experience in a regulated industry is preferred (medical device, diagnostics, pharmaceuticals, food).

Preferred skills

Advanced level knowledge as a user of Microsoft Office modules (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc).

Advanced level knowledge as a user of Microsoft Teams

Basic knowledge of networking, servers, storage, databases

Working knowledge of mobile data networks, including SIM management, APN’s, VPN’s, mobile protocols, SMPP.

Working knowledge of Microsoft SQL queries.

Document control, management, maintenance, and associated process experience would be a distinct advantage.

Working knowledge of validation and testing procedures.
