Job description/Person specification
We are looking to appoint an experienced Software Engineer who will be responsible for the line management and professional development for a team of 6-12 Software Engineers ranging from graduates through to senior principals. It is expected that this will be approx. 20-30% of the role with the remainder being regular project work.
You will have the opportunity to directly contribute to the development of the software engineering discipline through continuous improvement activities as well as supporting the professional development of your team to meet the future needs of the business
Capability: You will be responsible for driving the professional development of your team through a combination of project experience, mentoring and training. This will be in collaboration with the head of discipline and group leads to ensure you and your team align with our strategic intent and anticipated customer demands.
Capacity: Coordinating with our resource managers to support delivery of projects through identifying skill and domain matches with people in your team.
Culture: You will facilitate vibrant and collaborative working environment within your software team to share best practice and develop our culture - working together, ambitious, learning, listening and trusting each other.
Technical Expertise: You will apply your experience and knowledge directly to projects for the majority of your time but will face into one or more IDTs to advise them on matters relating to software engineering and your domain expertise .
Strategy: You will work with the software engineering discipline and key IDTs on our strategy for improving our practices and being able to deliver work in the future.
Customer & Industry Relations: You will develop an internal and industry network to enable transfer of best practice into their team and the wider software engineering community.
Collaboration: You will work across software teams in QinetiQ to create collaborative working relationships to drive forward our wider capability.
Experience & Qualifications Required:
- Demonstrable experience working in the software engineering profession with a technical leadership background
- Leadership and capability development of teams to meet specific objectives
- Stakeholder engagement and leadership to ensure successful delivery of complex projects
