Systems Engineer - Naval Communications Systems

Communication technology is constantly evolving, QinetiQ are the Royal Navy’s partner in the evaluation and assessment of command information systems, we are seeking a Communications Systems Engineer to join our team; offering an opportunity to get hands on with the latest technology and work towards the design, development, integration, testing and acceptance of systems on behalf of the UK MoD.

With our powerful research network, continuous testing, assessment and optimisation, we’re at the forefront of assuring sovereign naval capabilities, We work with partners across the world to apply new technologies to ships, submarines and unmanned systems, exploring the art of the possible for every mission. We assess and assure naval systems from concept design through to in-service operation, simulating the mission environment using representative threats. Through individual and collective training, we integrate live, virtual and constructive technologies, enabling pre-deployment confidence.

Working on a range of Royal Navy projects, we provide support and development to military communication systems and installations – from legacy systems through to future technologies our Systems Engineers work through the full engineering lifecycle in a collaborative working environment.

Key Accountabilities:
• As a Communications Systems Engineer with QinetiQ you will have the opportunity to work within design, development, integration, testing and acceptance activities in support of new and innovative defence systems.
• Other opportunities to gain experience within the development of architecture solutions, the production of technical reports, the evaluation of equipment in lab environments and integration into military and commercial platforms.
• Designing and testing innovative naval systems and components for the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and related industry partners.

Key Knowledge, Skills & Requirements:
• Understanding and proven application of systems engineering principles
• Competent with engineering tools such as MATLAB, Simulink and LabVIEW
• The ability to work as part of a multi-functional team and be able to quickly learn and adapt new and existing technologies.
• Degree qualification in either an Engineering, Science or Communications based discipline
• Ability to obtain full security clearance
