About the role
Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Surveyor to join our Major Projects team to work in Hinkley Marine, Somerset.
What you'll be doing
As a Surveyor, your main accountabilities are as follows:
Acc Live the Balfour Beatty Values
Acc Ensure a relentless focus on Zero Harm
Acc Support the delivery of CSUKs Sustainability activities
Health Safety & Environmental
Acc Production of Task Briefing Sheets
Acc Contribution to production of Permit to Dig, including briefing to the workforce
Acc Carries out associated briefings
Acc Carries out Safety Inspections as required
Acc Hazard Identification and contribution to development of Safe System of Work
Acc All Setting out including establishment of primary control
Acc The provision of sketches detailing the setting out information installed
Acc Maintain survey equipment including registers of equipment and testing regimes
Acc Read and determine information from drawings, schedules and specification
Acc Use of surveying software packages
Acc Production of as-built drawings & records for every element of the works involved in
Acc Completion of Quality Check Sheets and production of information for Handover Documentation in a timely manner in line with programme
Acc Maintaining accurate records Daily Diary, photographs, records of site discussions
Acc Measures actual materials used and reconciles with theoretical measure, reporting and investigating reasons for differences
Acc Works to Weekly Programme (drafted by others) and marks up progress achieved weekly
Acc Contributes to collection of data for Key Performance Indicators, including reasons for difference
Acc Production of accurate daily diary of resources, including labour, plant, materials, subcontractors and outputs
Acc Produces weekly measure. Take offs and schedules materials accurately, producing accurate and clear requisitions, following through to delivery
Acc Understands what is classified as additional work and understands how to record this
Acc Familiar with actual resourcing levels versus budget and reporting of reasons for difference

Acc Able to clearly communicate the requirements of a safe system of work to ensure that these are followed accurately
Acc Capable of taking ownership of tasks and communicating outcomes
Acc Strong work ethic with flexibility to work unsociable hours/nights
Acc Able to work on own initiative and seek out opportunities in line with level of responsibility
Acc Holds a current driving license and CSCS Card
Acc Must be a good team player, with strong communication and interpersonal skills

Acc Understands Permit to Dig System
Acc Environmental awareness
Acc Setting out techniques ability to use all types of levels, EDMs, GPS, lasers etc.
Acc Able to report issues with control and information provided
Acc Reads and understands drawings and schedules
Acc Understands Activity Control Plans and production of resultant information for handover file
Acc Strong understanding of construction tolerances
Acc Awareness and use of Specification and other Contract documents
Acc Able to produce detailed documentation for handover of completed works
Acc Security and integrity of surveying equipment including testing/calibration
Acc Able to take off and schedule material quantities accurately, including earthworks measures, cut/fill balances etc.
Acc Knowledge of specification and contract documents
Acc Understands what constitutes additional works
The following qualities/experience are desirable:
Acc Knowledge of the construction process in the following areas: Earthworks/Drainage, Pavement, Structures, Roadworks
Acc Leadership skills developing
Acc Targeting and actively progressing professional accreditation (eg ICE, IHT, ICES)
