The SZC project is currently in the development phase, with UK public policy; financing; commercial and construction arrangements being established. The intention is to begin construction of the project at the end of 2022.

The Supply Chain directorate ensures ‘best value’ contractual arrangements between SZC and its supply chain aligned to the project delivery model, reflecting a fair balance of risk and promoting ‘Best for Project’ behaviours, decisions and outcomes.

Procurement - Define, develop, and obtain agreement for sourcing strategies to fulfil identified project requirements; Coordinate pre-tender market engagement; Prepare, publish, manage, evaluate, and negotiate Invitation to Tenders; Coordinate the formal award of contracts.

Contract Management - Manage all contracts within the defined portfolio to minimise value leakage and ensure appointed suppliers deliver what they have agreed; Oversee the retention of comprehensive, well managed contractual records; Oversee the fair and on-time payment of suppliers; Manage the closure of contracts within the defined portfolio from initial completion to full commercial close.

Supplier Relationship Management - Enable controls for the management of supplier relationships to be focussed on key suppliers as prioritised by their supply risk vs value; Implement SRM on a segmented basis across the defined portfolio; Develop an environment within relevant supplier relationships to support the identification, development and exploitation of innovation whilst maintaining an appropriate degree of ‘commercial tension’.

Assurance & Continuous Improvement - Support the Programmes and wider project to ensure that all supply chain activities are delivered in a controlled manner; Identify, communicate and act upon operational experience to ensure the adoption of best practice by SZC; Support the Programmes and wider project in demonstrating fulfilment of its intelligent customer role.
