What does the Submarine Electricity Cable Team do?

Fifty-nine Scottish islands are currently connected to the electricity network that serves mainland Great Britain by SSE Distribution's submarine electricity cables. There are 112 submarine electricity cables totalling over 450 km - with some cables having been in place for over 50 years.

A number of our submarine electricity cable assets are nearing the end of their operational and economical life. This means that we are embarking on a significant programme of investment to ensure that we continue to provide a safe, reliable, secure supply of electricity to the Islands who depend on them.

About the role

Working with the team, you will be responsible for ensuring all environmental legislative requirements and any commitments made via planning submissions and consents are adhered to and discharged accordingly.

What do I need?

To ensure you get the most from your role, and our customers receive the highest standard of service, we ask that you have the following to join us we need to you to evidence that you have the ability and experience to:

- prepare and review project environmental information within consent applications; ensuring that commitments made are in-line with project expectations and deliverable within the agreed and approved project scope.

- develop, update and review Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMP), throughout the project to completion.

- engage consultants to design and deliver any surveys or reports required to support consent applications. To coordinate and project manage the delivery of on-site environmental works.

- develop reports and evidence to enable close out of consent conditions.

- produce contractor specifications for monitoring obligations, the production of tender documentation in conjunction with Procurement and Commercial Teams.

- manage environmental contractors, critique contractor reports, environmental Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) and any other project specific documentation.

- manage investigating environmental hazards and incidents as they arise, ensuring prevention of further harm, resolution where possible and rolling out lessons learned to the wider business and applicable contractors as appropriate.

- engage in applicable consultation regarding project consenting information in addition to legislative proposals and shall provide input and guidance to the project and/or broader business.

Anything else?

Whilst the above skills and experience are important, we also have several personal competencies that we look for in our people;

- Knowledge, expertise, experience and qualifications in a relevant environmental discipline such as ecology, construction environmental management, environmental legislation and policy and environmental sciences.

- Project Management.

- Budgetary Management.

- Experience of ISO 14001 and internal auditing.

- Experienced in liaising with Regulators, Agencies, NGO's and Planning Authorities.

- Contractor Management.

- Experience of coordinating stakeholder groups, meetings and events.
