Position Title Structures Practice Lead

Job Summary

As the Practice Line Leader – Structures, you will lead and develop the professional practice, in addition to driving the strategic direction within the Building Engineering practice line across UK&I, working closely with the EMIA Practice Line Leader for Structures.

Together with your fellow Building Engineering Practice Line Leads, as well as collaborating with the Architecture, Program, Cost, Consultancy (PCC) and Design, Planning & Economics (DP&E) practices, you will develop the wider practice agenda and work to become the best in class service partner for our chosen clients, through the delivery of high quality, innovative outcomes that are impactful to our people, the business and our clients. You will also be responsible for solving the challenges created by complex projects of all sizes, using creativity, ingenuity and flawless professional execution, and be accountable, through both influencing and collaborating with the B+P Metro Leaders, for reducing project losses through successful project delivery.

Working collaboratively with a talented team of multidisciplinary design, management and technical professionals this role will focus on championing and embedding a culture of technical excellence and advancement across the practice, whilst providing and encouraging thought leadership on the future of the practice line.

In conjunction with geography and regional B+P leadership, this role is also responsible for developing a culture that nurtures and promotes its talent by overseeing the professional development within the practice. In addition you will support our Graduate, Apprentice, and Trainee development programmes as well as overseeing the creation of AECOM University technical courses and maintaining and updating the AECOM career pathways to support staff’s career progression.

Key Responsibilities:

* Elevating the professional practice:

o Define and build the practice’s brand and reputation internally and externally; leverage this reputation to retain and attract new and existing talent

*

Continue to connect the UK&I Practice community

*

Increase our external (and internal) communications to build greater visibility

*

Talent Development:

*

Develop a culture that nurtures and supports our talent

*

Identify and help to develop our future leaders

*

Reinforcing our technical content:

*

Develop the standard tools through our Technical Practice Groups (TPGs)

*

Ensure our design guides and other standard reports are updated and BIM compatible

*

Collaborate with those developing our digital methodologies and tools

*

Continue to drive technical reviews (to enhance quality and manage risks)

*

Leverage the specialist services:

*

Communicate strategic objectives and growth areas for specialist offerings

*

Engage with clients in target markets to develop value add propositions

*

Raise internal awareness of capabilities (including other End Markets)

*

Integrated delivery:

*

Drive the continued improvement of innovation, design and creativity; support best practice project delivery

*

Support the development of an integrated digital delivery methodology across B+P

*

Support the use of India GDC, where applicable

*

Cross-selling with other end markets

*

Common Practice Activities – FY18 Specific (in collaboration with Practice Lead Peers):

*

Develop Sharepoint site as repository

*

Develop BIM/GIS standards

*

Pilot BIM enabled specifications

o Profile raising campaign, including conference presentations

Minimum Requirements

For this role, you will have the following skills/experience:

*

Professionally accredited with relevant professional body.

*

Ideally progressive experience, including significant time in a supervisory / leadership role.

*

Demonstrable track record in leading professional practice standards or component parts.

*

Proven track record in furthering and embedding a culture of technical excellence and practice, within a multi discipline environment.

*

Demonstrated external and internal organisational profile.

*

Commercial acumen, delivering complex and demanding solutions to our clients.

Preferred Qualifications

* Tertiary qualified in the relevant technical discipline. Post graduate business qualifications are highly advantageous.
