PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The role supports the Materials & Procurement Manager in the selection, development and management of the supplier base for the fleet of rail grinding machines which Colas Rail Services maintain and operate on behalf of Network Rail.

The role is responsible and accountable for the inventory management and supply of materials and services required to support the maintenance and operation of the rail grinding fleet on time and to budget.

The post holder will have responsibility for ensuring compliance with business governance, and that all mandatory and company 'Safety, Quality & Environmental' standards are implemented and adhered to.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

The role supports the “Materials & Procurement Manager ' in the selection, development and management of the supplier base for the fleet of rail grinding machines which Colas Rail Services maintain and operate on behalf of Network Rail.

The role is responsible and accountable for the inventory management and supply of materials and services required to support the maintenance and operation of the rail grinding fleet on time and to budget.

The post holder will have responsibility for ensuring compliance with business governance, and that all mandatory and company 'Safety, Quality & Environmental' standards are implemented and adhered to.

Key Areas of Responsibility & Accountability

Supervise a small stores team to ensure that

Sufficient staff cover to ensure we meet business requirements

Material quotes & Purchase requisitions are raised in a timely manner

Deliveries are inspected upon receipt and processed correctly

Maximise availability of material whilst minimising stock levels & aligned with stock holding levels.

Maintaining high levels of accuracy through stocktakes.

Pick and process material requisitions and plan transport and distribution requirements for rail grinding machine shipments in a timely manner

Reduce waste involved in 'picking' times by optimising procedures and stores layout and manpower utilisation across shifts

Aid development of, and train staff in, critical activity plans for daily/weekly key activities

Materials are stored correctly, and BIN numbers are maintained on the business system

Reorder supplier details are updated on the business system

The repairable float is managed throughout the supply chain & business system

Warranties and rejections are managed with the rail grinding engineers through to conclusion

Stores housekeeping is maintained to the highest standard

Develop, implement and maintain accurate warehouse document control to satisfy audit criteria

Carry out pre and post contract negotiations with approved suppliers monitoring them against established KPI's.

Assist in the management of the Supplier Accreditation process for the procurement group, ensuring that the client's standards are met and adhered to.

Identify and undertake initiatives with suppliers to improve their performance and to reduce overall costs to Colas Rail. Drive value for money in terms of safety, price, quality, innovation and engagement.

Work with internal stakeholders to establish KPIs required by Colas Rail Ltd.

Compliance with ISO 9001 and 14001 Quality and Environmental procedures.

Work closely with finance to ensure budget targets are met.

To work safely with due regard to their own and other people's well-being.

At all times wear personal protective equipment appropriate to the tasks being carried out.

Comply with all local and company rules or instructions on safety matters.

Participate in a positive manner in all company safety initiatives.

Attend safety briefing sessions as required by the company.

Present themselves for duty promptly and fit to carry out their duties as required by the company policy and procedures.

Co-ordination of all overhauled equipment to support rail grinding fleet engineering maintenance

From time to time if the need arises be prepared to lodge away from home for a limited period in order fulfil business requirements.

When driving company vehicles, do so within the bounds of the Highway Code and any appropriate company instructions or procedures.

As you will expect the organisation may change from time to time and you will be expected to meet the operational requirements.

Track supplier performance (QCD) on weekly basis

Embrace new technology to further improve stock control

Deputise in the albescence of the Materials & Procurement Manager

Any other reasonable duties as required from time to time.

Qualifications & Experience

Previous Stores/warehouse procedures knowledge & experience essential

Stock control experience essential

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Materials Management and Stores qualifications are desirable.

Experience in the use material management functions on the business system is essential

Proficient user of Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.

Knowledge of quality systems and management

In possession of a clean road vehicle driving license

Fork Lift Truck and Pallet truck experience essential
