Department Overview

The position is to be fulfilled in the RISK function of the group, more precisely in the Enterprise Risk Architecture/Risk Analytics and Modelling transversal stream.

The missions of Risk-Analytics and Modelling (Risk-AM) consist in :

*

Developing methodologies, models and back-testing capabilities for market, counterparty and credit risks

*

Elaborating BNP Paribas ratings and policies

*

Delivering market and counterparty risk systems

*

Contributing to the industrialization of Risk processes and systems

Risk-AM contributes to the definition of the Group’s risk appetite, its risk decision making process and the optimization of capital allocation to support the development of the Operating Divisions. Risk-AM supports with full commitment all RISK initiatives and actions.

The Risk Systems team is part of Risk-AM, whose mission includes providing the bank with a comprehensive capital markets risk system used to calculate market and counterparty risk capital figures using advanced method internal models validated by the regulator and to support the needs of users for risk analysis, risk reporting and the credit process.

The responsibility for delivering enhancements to the system is split into three teams:

*

Risk System Applications is responsible for the user interfaces;

*

Data Fabric is responsible for data integration, data storage, data extraction and data governance;

*

Calculation Engines is responsible for the implementation of the risk calculation frameworks.

The Risk Systems Development team is present in 5 locations London, Paris, Mumbai, Brussels and New York and is made of about 140 people.

Purpose of Job:

The role is to head up the architectural and solution function within risk, reporting to the Head of Development and is based in London.

The department is undergoing a significant transformation exercise, refreshing it’s technology stack using the latest big data, grid/cloud computing, micro-services, containers and high performance technologies (such as GPU). More efficient ways of working using automation and continuous delivery are also being rolled out.

The candidate should have a demonstrated track record in delivering large scale, distributed, mission critical enterprise systems as a key thought leader and decision maker. Extensive experience of o-o programming languages (Java/C#), Data Programming languages (Python, R), Grid Computing and Big Data solutions are preferred as is the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a strong emphasis on Continuous Delivery.

The successful candidate will have enthusiasm for learning and working closely with the development teams located in Paris, Brussels and Mumbai. Strong communication skills and the ability to articulate and evangelise technical solutions is mandatory.

The candidate will be responsible for the overall systems architecture and will define high level solutions for the different parts of Risk Systems with his counterparts. He will also engage with team leads for developing an architecture and solution culture within the Operational and Development teams.

He will also develop and mentor 2 or 3 Solution Architects among the Development Teams.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be expected to fulfil the role of an architect as follows:

Work with the Head of Development to analyse areas of transformation within RISK Systems.

*

Face off to senior managers to gather requirements and analyse technical opportunities.

*

Take into account operational and infrastructure requirements in the solution.

*

Maintain a 3 year Architecture vision,

*

Present technical ideas to various stakeholders.

*

Support the project processes through architectural documentation,

*

Work with the development teams on transversally coherent architectural solutions.

*

Review application design with developers as necessary.

*

Research and prototype candidate technologies.

Professional Qualifications / Candidate Profile

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

*

Top Tier Engineering school, Msc or Phd in Science Computing

Technical Skills Required:

*

Solutions design and architecture.

*

Experience with O-O languages,

*

Fluent with Data Languages (Python, R),

*

Cloud Computing (Docker) and Distributed Systems (Compute Grid, Data Grid),

*

Big Data (Amazon S3, Datastax Cassandra, MapR).

*

Data-warehouse

Other Knowledge/Skills/Experience:

*

Mathematical knowledge is a plus

*

Demonstrated delivery of large scale distributed systems.

*

Excellent technical communication skills (written and verbal).

*

Forward thinking skilled individual

*

Delivery-focused with a good eye for detail

*

Structured, organised, methodical and autonomous.
