Job Description

We are looking for a Software Systems Engineer to take responsibility for development of software and management of software suppliers.

You will work on projects for Earth Observation satellite payloads – spaceborne developed software products covering Basic Software & Application Software utilising TMTC packet service capabilities for the command and control of Instruments/Payloads.

Reporting to the System Architecture & Implementation Lead, you will join our Earth Observation department at Airbus Defence and Space in Portsmouth.

You will be subject to a BPSS check (including a criminal record check).

Tasks & Accountabilities



Perform functional analysis and decomposition of requirements down to software system level - including System Software Specification and System Software Interface Requirements Documents.



Define and agree with the customer the implementation of the requirements related to development, operation, and maintenance of software.



Define the overall instrument distributed software architecture, interfaces and tasks allocation and prepare the Software Development and Verification Plan.



Carry out operational management of software suppliers to define, verify, validate and deliver application software, boot software and APIs considering operation, performance, engineering processes, cost and quality.



Review software supplier design development verification and validation documentation and ensure compliance with technical and quality requirements.



Define the Software Development and Validation Environment (SDVE) to be used throughout mission operational phases.



Develop of functional test scripts to validate payload operation and performance. Support debug of payload and GSE operation.



Perform hardware/software integration and verification.

Required Skills & Experience



Real time embedded software development experience



A good understanding of software design, development, analyses and verification methods



Experience in Hardware / Software integration, use of related test equipment (eg: oscilloscope, logic analyser, hardware emulator) and familiarity with digital communication protocols



Experience in managing software suppliers
