Software Development Manager

Would you like to play a key role in one of the most challenging programmes ever undertaken by the Royal Navy? We currently have a vacancy for a Software Development Manager at our site in New Malden.

As a Software Development Manager working on the complex Electronic Warfare capability update for the Royal Navy, you will be managing packages of work and facilitating effective co-ordination between Software Engineering Teams and the wider project stakeholders. You will be involved in all aspects of the contract software development through to acceptance. In addition to managing software releases, you will utilise your own knowledge and expertise to help implement some functionality and investigate issues as they arise.

You will also have the opportunity to engage directly with the customers and end users to support the continued evolution of the platform implementation and wider Combat Systems product. Additionally, you will have direct engagement with senior Combat Systems stakeholders, e.g. for Governance or other engineering matters.

This role will provide you with the unique opportunity to work on a historic update to the Electronic Warfare Capability supporting the development and integration of the Navy’s Electronic Command & Control Capabilities. It will also give you the opportunity to work closely with both third parties and with the Ministry of Defence. This role could lead to further career development either within the team or wider BAE Systems Business.

Your main responsibilities as a Software Development Manager will involve:

Planning of project/platform software Releases and support.

Monitoring of progress against plans & implementation of corrective action

Assignment of work instructions to team leaders

Directing the resolution of software design and implementation activities

Ensuring that the relevant procedures are being applied correctly by the team

Responsibility for delivery of software releases implementing new or modified customer requirements.

Your skills and qualifications:


Knowledge and experience in use of software design and development processes (including Agile processes would be desirable)

Previous experience of managing budgets including monthly tracking of spend and projected Costs to Complete

Experience of software development in a Windows environment


Experience within a Naval Development Environment

Knowledge of network technologies

Knowledge of Ada application development & of Visual Studio development (incl. C#, C++)
