About TRU West

The Transpennine Route is a major transport artery for the UK and for the communities and economies across the north of England. It runs for 76 miles between Manchester, Leeds, York, Selby and onto Humberside. It’s a hugely popular route and passenger numbers have doubled over the past 25 years. Millions of people that work, study and live alongside the railway depend on it every year.
The Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) is a multi-billion pound investment programme that will deliver a high performing, reliable railway for passengers with more seats, more trains and faster journeys between Manchester and York via Huddersfield and Leeds. It is the biggest railway transformation the north has seen since the Victorian era.
TRU is made up of three programmes: West of Leeds, Leeds Central and East of Leeds. The West of Leeds Alliance (TRU West) is responsible for the transformation of the railway between Manchester and Leeds.

Acting as one team, the TRU West Alliance will put passengers first and deliver a positive outcome for all involved: for the team, which will gain unparalleled experience; for people that live, work and study along the railway; for Network Rail’s customers and stakeholders; for the public purse and ultimately, for the North of England. In this way, the TRU West Alliance will not only deliver present benefit but also leave a lasting, sustainable legacy.

What is the purpose of this role?

* The role is designed to employ a person with the correct level of construction experience to understand and appraise programme delivery. The candidate will also have the correct behavioural traits to ensure cooperation and problem solving of all elements of site works can be achieved across all parties throughout the programme cycle.

What will this role involve?

* Supports the construction team

* Assurance and verification of installation and works undertaken.

* Governance of site works and working practice

* Will be the "constant" on site

* PC "supervision", from a CDM perspective, on a complex site.

* Agreement of change, real-time on site. Tied into CRE -C and construction management

* Allows SCP to concentrate on safe delivery (lets the constructor construct).

* Liaison with PC Rep

* If there is an incident on site, then the site agent will assist PC rep in ensuring the integrity of the site and first response. Preserve the site, help with taking statements, D&A co-ordination etc and the same applies if PC rep is called away to another site of work the site agent remains the constant covering the PC role.

What are we looking for?

Relevant Key Processes:

This role will comply with all relevant Network Rail Standards especially those relevant to OLE Assurance, Amey Group Standards and procedures, British Standards and European standards, as applicable to the role and activities undertaken. Technical knowledge of OLE installation techniques, design interpretation from wiring layouts, cross sections , switching diagrams , bonding layouts and MFD. Experience of major site works and project delivery in a multi -disciplinary environment.

* Personal Track Safety

* IOSH Managing Safely

* Strong interpersonal skills to influence and communicate effectively with site staff and project team

* Understanding of Railway planning systems

* Understanding of the Railway operating environment

* Railway access & Programme (P6) Awareness/Appreciation

* Supervisory Management training / qualification with significant practical experience

* Must be able to drive

* Computer literacy – Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook

* Experience of railway construction management for specific discipline

* Working at Height training or understanding

* Desirable Skills, Qualifications and Training

* Experience of reporting and report writing

Desirable skills:

* PTS /IWA

* Emergency First Aid at work

* IOSHH Managing Safely

* COSHH

* PTS/COSS

* Knowledge of Risk Assessment techniques

* IOSH working safely
