What is the purpose of the role?
We are currently seeking a mechanical technician to ensure that all mechanical equipment associated with our sewage treatment works are running safely and efficiently using both proactive and reactive maintenance methods. You will need to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair mechanical plant equipment. Working within the maintenance team you will follow robust maintenance plan as well as getting involved in minor installation projects and emergency breakdown repairs to ensure our plant operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

What will this role involve?
You will be working in a small multi discipline team and will:
Carry out unscheduled, emergency and scheduled, planned maintenance work on mechanical equipment in compliance with company procedures in order to minimise plant breakdowns.
Investigate & diagnose complex faults from plant failures and subsequently carry out repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible in order to avoid interruptions to the process.
Carry out the installations, refurbishment and commissioning of mechanical plant to specification and on time.
Providing technical advice where appropriate; making reference to up to date technical knowledge, and provide training or support for technical trainees.
Carry out an assessment of spares and materials required to complete work effectively, where necessary ordering additional items via the technical coordinator. Ensure the health & safety of yourself, colleagues, visitors and members of the public is excellent at all times.
What are we looking for?
Are you a qualified mechanical technician? Do you have experience working on industrial plant equipment?
We are looking for an apprenticeship-served technician with similar experience. Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues relevant to the industry would be beneficial for this role, although not essential. The work will require physical fitness and you will need the ability to work in confined spaces following successful completion of the appropriate training. Due to the nature of the role a valid driving licence is essential.
Thames Water information and salary details
This role is based at Rye Meads sewage treatment works in Hertfordshire. We are offering a salary of up to £35k depending on experience and qualifications. We also offer 2 paid volunteering days per year.
Participation in a 24/7 out of hour's standby rota will be required after a suitable period of training and assessment, for which you will receive an additional payment. All necessary equipment is provided.
Please note, you must live within an hour of the site location due to being able to respond to emergencies in time.
