About the role

Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Signalling Installer to join our Rail team to work in Crawley.

Role Purpose:

To undertake signalling installation work as directed and to provide direction to Assistant Installers as required.

What you'll be doing

As a Signalling Installer, your main responsibilities are as follows:

* Undertake installation work as directed
* Comply with health, quality, safety and environmental instructions
* Timely completion of tasks
* Undertake COSS/SWL duties as required
* Work towards gaining Signalling Installation Operative IRSE Licence (1.2.210)
* Maintain IRSE logbook
* Attend team, technical and safety briefs
* Complete required paperwork for planned work
* Carry out installation work to Signalling Installation Handbook (SIH) standards
* Understanding of the standards framework
* Take responsibility for staff nominated as being under your control, including sub-contractors
* Ensure that the information used is current, authorised and contains all essential data

Who we're looking for

The following qualities and experience are essential:

* Numerate and literate
* Basic computer operating skills with knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
* Ability to drive
* Use of Cable Avoidance Tool (CAT scanner)
* Good communication skills
* IRSE license Signalling Installation Operative (1.2.210)
* COSS or SWL
* Valid PTS with AC/DC
* Emergency first aid
* Manual handling
* Fire safety
* COSHH Appreciation
* Small tools
* Working in confined spaces
* Knowledge of railway signalling systems and sub-systems
* Knowledge of appropriate industry standards relating to installation work

The following qualities and experience are desirable:

* Knowledge of Hazpak documents
* IRSE licence Signalling Installation Technician (1.2.220 v2)
* Basic Signalling Technology (BST)
* SMTH
* NVQ level 3
* Awareness of principles of risk assessment
* Basic knowledge of health, safety, quality & environmental standards
