Permanent Chemistry Technican, Sizewell B, with a competitive salary from £26,524 - £53,520 and terms and conditions covered by the EDF Nuclear Generation Company Agreement. The starting salary will be dependent on your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications.

The Opportunity

At Sizewell B Power Station we are looking for a Chemistry Technician to join our Technical and Safety Department. As someone with an appreciation of PWR Primary, Secondary and Auxiliary system chemistry, you will be working on both laboratory and plant operations. You will need a strong understanding of Radiological and Chemical Safety, for example in the laboratory and application of COSHH.

Experience in lab analytical chemistry skills such as ion and gas chromatography would be advantageous, as well as experience in online chemistry feed monitoring. You will need an understanding and experience in quality control and assurance practices within a laboratory environment. As a Chemistry Technician you will be resonsible for the maintenance of laboratory and plant instrumentation as well as investigation of plant issues. You will be supporting site emergency arrangements, outages and dry storage campaigns as well as providing technical advice to support plant operations.

The Role

On a day to day basis you will be responsible for a wide range of activities on the station, which will include:

* Sampling of plant systems including water, gas, oil and radioactive samples

* Analysis of samples using wet chemistry techniques

* Instrumental techniques such as gamma spectroscopy, liquid scintillation counting, UV-VIS spectroscopy, gas chromatography, ion chromatography, atomic absorption, and x-ray fluorescence

* Atmosphere testing and confined space permits

* Monitoring of chemistry parameters

* Preparing and reviewing documentation to support the site chemistry programme

* Testing and monitoring of atmospheres/confined space

The Skills

As part of this role, you will require the following skills and experience:

* Excellent organisational, communication and people management skills as well as a willingness to work flexibly within your own range of competencies

* A pro-active approach when dealing with technical issues

* Enthusiasm and a determination to succeed

* A working knowledge of Site Licence requirements and an understanding of permit for work systems and emergency response procedures

* A minimum of a relevant Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) qualification at Level 2 (GCSE Equivalent)

* A higher QCF qualification in chemistry or a related science (i.e. HNC, A levels or above) would be advantageous
