Strategic business unit:
Meggitt Avionics located in Fareham between Southampton and Portsmouth on the UK's south coast, designs and manufactures flight deck avionics, data acquisition systems, instrumentation and life support equipmentMeggitt Avionics´ aviation history spans a century and for the last 15 years we have pioneered solid state technology. Meggitt Avionics designs and manufactures aircraft sensors, displays and systems across three product groups: flight deck avionics, data acquisition systems and life support
Purpose:
• Develop and implement structured engineering solutions to meet programme requirements across the whole development lifecycle in accordance with customer requirements, legislation, human factors and business needs• Be responsible for the control of own work and that of any allocated resource to meet agreed technical, quality, cost and schedule requirements

Specific responsibilities:

• Prepare and manage system requirements and design specifications following analysis of customer requirements in accordance with legislation, human factors and business needs
• Assist in the conduct of Trade Studies to determine optimum system hardware and software architectures
• Prepare Requirements Specifications for each hardware or software Configuration Item identified within the chosen architecture

• Prepare system test plans to adequately verify and validate system requirements at minimum life cycle cost

• Conduct Validation and Verification Activities as required to secure product acceptance

• Prepare Declarations of Design and Performance against Requirements Specifications

• Develop engineering solutions to meet the requirements of the project to agreed schedule, quality and cost requirements where necessary considering alternative implementations using trade analyses in order to determine preferred solution
• Capture, define and manage requirements through a disciplined and rigorous approach to requirements management and ask challenging questions about the requirements and architecture of the system at each level of the hierarchy
• Define strategies in order to comprehensively review and exercise designs to detect defects and evaluate features in both development and manufacture. Generate, perform, approve and validate results of verification plans, test plans, analyses, test case design and other specific kinds of tests including flight tests, system tests, development tests, unit tests, component tests, integration tests, regression tests, stress tests, acceptance tests and qualification tests as appropriate
• Understand and implement the requirements for certification of safety critical products in partnership with the appropriate development assurance level requirements and processes
• To provide technical leadership in areas of expertise, where required
• Compile plans, estimates, task lists and risk management plans with estimated resource requirements (people and equipment) in support of programme objectives, project estimates and bids
• Perform, track and control internal project activities and external sub-contract organisations maintaining focus on achieving goals with a positive can-do attitude
• Where appropriate provide leadership and development of multi-disciplinary teams to meet the requirements of the business and its customers
• Provide confidence that work products conform to all aspects of technical and quality requirements using robust configuration control, review and change management processes
• Assist the business as required in the formulation of engineering strategy and continual process improvement
• Undertake any other engineering related tasks commensurate with this post as required by the Integrated Project Team Lead
Key skills and competencies required:

• Potential to become Lead on design projects in the future

• Experienced Systems Engineer

• Experience of unit level box design

• Experience of Avionics

• Interest in working in the aerospace industry and want to learn quickly

• Past experience as a Software or Hardware Engineer

• Experience of working on unit level equipment rather than whole aircraft or whole system based work

• Experience of design life cycle work on a product

• Experience of capturing system requirements and of validating and verifying that the system that has been produced as a result meets the original specification

• Disciplined and rigorous approach to requirements management and ability to ask challenging questions about the requirements and architecture of the system at each level of the hierarchy
• Experience of facilitating trade-offs between hardware and software implementations and deriving discipline specific requirements
• Ability to create a range of alternative interdisciplinary design concepts, perform trade analyses to determine preferred solutions

• Ability to write integration and verification plans, define detailed test procedures and demonstrate effective management of systems verification activities

• Experience of working with customers, suppliers, other engineering disciplines, quality, manufacturing and other company departments
• Experience of negotiating and agreeing a specification

• Experience of at least one product development through the full product life cycle

Desirable Skills

• Aircraft electronic equipment design experience

• Knowledge of how different aircraft systems interface with each other and how they use the information
• Knowledge of aircraft certification requirements

• Experience of working with safety, availability, reliability and maintainability analyses
• Experience of mathematical and graphical modelling
