About the Department
Transmission operates under licence as Scottish Hydro Electric (SHE) Transmission plc, responsible for the transmission of electricity in the north of Scotland. We own and maintain the 132kV, 275kV and 400kV electricity transmission network in our licence area. Our network comprises of underground cables, overhead wooden poles, steel towers and electricity substations, and it extends over a quarter of the UK land mass across some of its most challenging terrain.
What is the Role?
Due to significant growth within SSE Transmission, we have an opportunity for an experienced Senior Regulation Manager. Your role will be to take the regulatory lead in demonstrating the need and securing the funding necessary to deliver strategic investment of £1-2bn during the RIIO-2 price control. Working with your Transmission colleagues you’ll successfully advocate for our strategic goals in key industry areas such as Licence and Code modification, competition and future offshore grids.
You’ll be responsible for the development of agile RIIO-2 regulatory uncertainty mechanisms that facilitate our investment pipeline and will assist in the roll out of the RIIO-2 Transmission price control settlement in to the business. More generally, you’ll be expected to lead, build and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, in particular Ofgem, influencing the external regulatory environment through regular communication and engagement. You’ll also represent the company at industry fora and oversee consultation responses and other submissions. Your ability to provide regulatory support and coaching across our business and wider group while also acting as a mentor and coach to those in your team will be key to your success.
What do I need?
To be considered for the role or Senior Regulation Manager, you must be able to demonstrate extensive relevant experience in utility regulation and you should qualified to degree level in one of the following disciplines; Economics, Business, Science, Engineering or Law.
You will have a strategic awareness of the interactions between regulatory projects and the impact of broader political and policy developments within the Transmission industry. Demonstrable experience of influencing and collaborating with Senior Management both internally and externally is essential.
The ideal candidate will be competent in both financial modelling and statistics and you should have a fundamental legal understanding of the field, particularly in relation to licence drafting. You will be in charge of a small, expert team and therefore past experience of line management is required.
