What is the purpose of the role?
This key role will be responsible for leading a technical team, in the delivery of one of our major complex engineering infrastructure projects up to £100m in value. You will develop, build and lead the multi-disciplined team necessary to ensure the success of your project(s) and/or programmes. You will be responsible for developing and delivering all key project technical objectives that deliver against business case objectives. You will play a key role in ensuring projects deliver to time, cost and quality, as well as ensuring a strong health, safety and wellbeing as well as a delivery focussed culture.

What will this role involve?
Leading and taking full project accountability of all technical aspects throughout the project lifecycle; Development of project briefs: Technically leading successful strategies to town & country planning; Development and definition of tender packages: Highlighting programme and project risks relating to consents required, including consideration of any potential 'early works'. Being accountable for the technical delivery of the project; ensuring a strong health, safety and wellbeing culture. Working closely and collaboratively with commercial teams: Early identification of change & risk issues, working collaboratively with the Communications team and owning the technical requirements and strategies in defining a communications plan for the project. Having the ability to understand, assimilate and articulate the business strategy, and ensure that it is captured and delivered through the project and engineering solution. You will be responsible for driving continuous improvement in technical outputs against stretching targets. Ability to influence key internal and external stakeholders at a senior level.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for someone with an engineering or other relevant degree and chartered status. With a track record of managing successful relevant activities, e.g. capital projects you will be experienced in delivering quality work with excellent customer focus. You will be confident in demonstrating your capability with risk-based and analytical decision making and using your excellent verbal and written skills, along with exceptional interpersonal skills. You will be comfortable with communicating at all levels of the business. You will have knowledge and experience of delivering major engineering infrastructure projects up to £100m in value, in an infrastructure regulatory environment (ideally the water industry). With a track record of managing successful relevant activities, you will be confident in demonstrating your capability with risk-based and analytical decision making for complex investment decisions.
In particular, you will have:
Excellent technical acumen (including both effluent and sludge streams, electrical, mechanical and automation experience) together with excellent leadership skills across multi-disciplined teams.
Process design engineering capability and knowledge including advanced treatment processes, such as IFAS, MBR, SBR, Nereda, THP, Pyrolysis, etc.
Experience in writing project briefs and technical specifications to support tender events.
Experience in the compilation of supplementary information for inclusion in the project brief.
Excellent communication skills and customer service ethic.
You will be self-starting, resilient and tenacious under pressure, with a desire to successfully deliver projects to time, cost and quality. Experience in delivery projects through full planning and environmental impact assessment is strongly desirable. A great team player with the ability to work collaborative in a challenging project environment, who is fully competent at using the appropriate company IT systems.
Thames Water information and salary details
The role is based at our head office in central Reading offering a salary between £55,000 and £75,000, depending on experience. On top of our competitive salary package, you will also receive a competitive bonus, car allowance, private healthcare and an industry leading pension scheme. We also offer 2 paid volunteering days per year.
