The Transport Planning team is committed to solving real-world transport problems. Whether that is finding solutions to complex movement issues, transitioning to sustainable, low-carbon and active travel modes, or preparing business cases for funding solutions for our clients, our team does everything to imagine a better solution and to deliver it. We have an exciting role in our established team, based in Bristol or Cardiff.
You will work in a collaborative team, working closely with our Project Managers and Leaders within Transportation and other disciplines across our offices. You will provide project leadership, mentoring and technical advice for team members. Our projects are varied, and as such, you will need to have extensive experience and knowledge of the full range of transport planning.
Our South West of England and South Wales Transport Planning team has supported and delivered high-profile projects in the South West and across the UK for a variety of interesting clients. Examples of our current projects and clients include:
Strategic Business Cases and Funding Applications for Cornwall Council
Urban Mobility Strategy for South East Dorset
A303 Amesbury to Berwick Down (Stonehenge)
WelTAG Business Case for Cardiff City Centre Improvements

As an experienced Senior or Principal, you will be an important member of our Transport Planning team. You will manage a range of small and medium scale projects, act as the face of AECOM with clients, providing advice and support, and exploring new business opportunities. You will lead workstreams within larger projects with limited supervision, ensuring that best practice and innovative thinking are applied consistently. You will support the drafting of proposals and contribute to bidding activity, including the preparation of fee proposals, resource planning and programme development.
An inquisitive mind, adept at problem-solving and with a background and broad understanding of current transportation trends and issues with a depth of knowledge of key policy and guidance documents.
Understanding and experience of Business Case preparation and appraisal, including knowledge of the requirements of WebTAG and or WelTAG.
Some experience in the management of small-scale projects, delivering to a high technical standard.
Some experience in supervising and mentoring junior staff.
Excellent technical and communication skills.
Ability to liaise and engage with clients and key stakeholders without supervision.
Some experience in leading or running consultation events.
Some business development experience and contribution to work winning activities
Flexibility to travel to other AECOM and client offices.
Preferred skills and experience:
* Experience of undertaking a range of transportation-related projects and studies involving Travel Demand Management, Sustainable and Active Travel, Mobility as a Service and Future
A degree qualified in a relevant discipline (or equivalent) in Geography, Economics, Transport Planning, Planning or a related discipline. Relevant post-graduate qualification (e.g. TPP) would be desirable.
Appropriate professional status with membership of a relevant professional chartered institute, or eligible for membership of a relevant professional chartered institute; for example, Transport Planning Society (TPS), Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in the UK (CILT), Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT), or Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE).
