Job Summary

Strategic business and technical consultant for wind feasibility and development.

Role includes: conducting on and offshore wind feasibility studies, project development support, technical due diligence, managing direct reports, managing shared and dedicated resources, supporting technical and methodological improvements. Staying abreast of market developments and relevant players, supporting business development activities and tender responses, working with business development function to identify and grow client relationships.

We seek an individual who has proven commitment to working in the Renewable Energy sector, particularly within the wind energy space and with the commensurate client exposure within this target market.

Key Responsibilities

Key Duties:

• Technical management and undertaking of; Site identification, selection and screening studies, feasibility studies, support to clients with wind project development needs, technical due diligence.

• Effectively manage several renewable energy projects concurrently to time and budget constraints (involving management of c. 5-10 staff to deliver these projects).

• To manage and work alongside other professionals in inter-department multi-disciplinary teams.

• To prepare technical and non-technical reports.

• To take a leading role (in conjunction with business development professionals) in and manage various business development activities/ tender initiatives.

• To contribute to expanding the client base and lead on managing relationships with key clients.

• Thought leadership; preparation of abstracts and delivery of technical presentations.

Key Skills:

• English as a first language / completely fluent speaker and writer at equal to first language level.

• Initiative, self-reliance, and drive to deliver results.

• Experience of project and people / contract management activities.

• Well developed technical skills and experience.

• Numerate and well-developed MS Excel skills.

• Well developed report writing and reviewing skills, using MS Word.

• User of industry standard software such as ArcGIS.

• Prioritising, planning, and organising own workload and team members.

• Accountability, including level of self-motivation and ambition and developing in others.

• Understanding client’s needs, and business development experience.

• Communication and team-working skills and sharing / using best practice information.

• Influencing others, including communication skills and self-confidence in general.

• Willingness to be adaptable, work flexibly.

Experience:

• Pre-feasibility studies including:

o Site wind resource.

o Investigation of key technical, environmental and planning constraints including noise, access and electricity grid constraints.

o Geographic Information System (GIS) based constraint mapping.

o Candidate wind turbine generators (WTG) selection and preliminary layout design.

o Preliminary energy yield and financial modelling.

o Levelised Cost of Energy (LCoE) modelling.

• Detailed feasibility studies and development support services including; Wind resource modelling and preliminary energy yield estimates based on mesoscale weather models and other data sources, metocean modelling, shadow flicker modelling, noise modelling and background noise measurement, visualisations (Zone of Theoretical Visual Influence (ZTVI), wireframe and photomontages), 3D visualisations and fly-through animations, transport and access (including swept path analysis and route inspection), telecommunications, grid connection, steep slopes analysis, consultation with stakeholders and planning authorities (including attending public exhibitions), project design and layout optimisation, detailed financial and LCoE modelling, terrestrial flora and fauna, marine ecology (including benthos and marine mammals), ornithology, fisheries, shipping, CAA and MoD impacts, seabed condition, ports and harbours.

• Technical due diligence input for on or offshore wind energy projects.

Flexible working will be considered for this role.

Minimum Qualifications

Degree in, Environmental, Engineering, Sciences or equivalent qualification.

All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

• MSc or equivalent in a related subject area for on and offshore wind energy technologies.

• Professional recognition qualification such as Chartered Engineer.

• Industry recognised organisation registration.

Highly Desirable Experience

• A demonstrable track record in the consenting of on or offshore wind energy projects in the UK or Europe.

• Member of a relevant industry body or institute.
