As a Senior/Principal Power Systems Engineer, you'll be working within WSP’s Power Systems team, which is part of the Networks division. The Power Systems team is very strong, comprising approximately 35 Engineers distributed across various locations. Power Networks includes Transmission, Distribution, Interconnectors and Power Systems and has approximately 160 Engineers. There are therefore significant opportunities to learn and develop, get involved in a range of interesting projects and work with excellent staff.

In addition to Power System Studies, the power systems team delivers work in innovation, regulation and strategic areas for clients both in the UK and globally. As the electricity networks change, with increasing renewable penetration, a move from DNO to DSO and industry reviews of charging and network codes there are increasing opportunities for engineers to be involved in exciting and leading-edge projects.

A typical week would include:

This position is for a Senior/ Principal Engineer to deliver a range of projects within the Power Systems team, with a particular focus on systems studies for industrial systems and grid connections. In addition to relevant technical expertise, the capability to communicate clearly and work as part of a team is also extremely important. An ability and enthusiasm to have direct client contact and generate strong client relationships is also essential. The role is to be based within the Manchester team.

The following attributes are essential:

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

* Team player;

* Developing and maintaining client relationships;

* Developing and supporting junior staff;

* Bidding and winning work;

* Clear articulation of complex issues to clients;

* Strong degree in Electrical Engineering or a related subject .

Some experience in a number of the following areas is also required:

* Static studies such as load flow, fault level and reactive compensation;

* Harmonic analysis;

* Transient and overvoltage/ insultation coordination;

* Stability studies;

* Equipment specifications such as cables and transformers.
