Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently looking for a Lead Piping Layout Engineer to work on a contract basis in our Staines office. The ideal candidate will be at Principal or Lead level in their career with extensive experience within the Oil & Gas / Petrochemical industry in a similar role.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivery of the project Piping scope to budget and schedule, including but not limited to the following activities:

* Pipe routing and equipment layouts in accordance with P&IDs and project standards using the AVEVA PDMS / E3D and AutoCAD software packages.
* Preparation and issue of 2D deliverables – Plot Plans and Elevations, Piping GAs, Standards etc.
* Preparation and issue of 1D deliverables – Lists, MTOs, Philosophies etc.
* Preparing for and running project design reviews, including close-out of actions relating to Piping and Layouts.
* Signing drawings and documents as originator/checker/approver in accordance with correct procedures.
* Ensuring engineering and design quality, technical accuracy of drawings, material quantities etc.
* Ensuring execution of Piping project scope in accordance with applicable contract procedures and client and project standards.
* Adhering to Wood engineering procedures for design safety, adopting safe attitudes towards engineering design and raising features affecting the safety and integrity of the project with appropriate authorities.
* Correct interpretation and implementation of all Piping CAD and system related functions in their appointed area.
* Control of project schedule and man hour budgets for Piping, including reporting to the Engineering and Project Managers.
* Issue clear directions on targets, communicate concisely and develop the Piping team on projects
* Represent the project and liaise with the Client as required.

Skills / Qualifications

* A degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering, or a similar related subject.
* Extensive experience in Piping Lead roles on onshore process plant projects, working for a major contracting company.
* Experience working in a variety of projects including Concept, Pre-FEED, FEED and EPC for both brownfield and greenfield developments.
* Strong knowledge of pipe routing best practices, with an ability to produce safe and efficient piping and equipment layouts quickly.
* An understanding of all aspects of Piping design considerations, including stress analysis and vibration, materials, industry codes and standards and specifications.
* Experience in using intelligent CAD systems in the production of smart deliverables.
* A proactive approach to resolving technical or contractual issues in collaboration with the Piping team, interfacing disciplines or the client.
* Proven strong character and self-motivated individual with strong communication skills.
* The ability to work with the minimum of supervision.
* Proven ability to engage in effective dealings with client
