Job description/Person specification
This role is part of the Land Instrumentation (West) team in support of Analysis and Modelling. The instrumentation is very varied and includes Radar, X-ray, optical and electronic capabilities. The systems under test are diverse with the testing environment ranging from one square metre to many kilometres. The focus is on delivering quality assured data and an appropriate service to our customers. Much of the data and information captured is protectively marked and highly regulated. Experience in handling data in a methodical and safe manner is imperative.
Typical activities will comprise developing instrumentation plans whilst interpreting customer requirements in conjunction with other specialists and Team Leads, ensuring that instrumentation is fit for purpose and operated by competent operators.
The successful candidate will also be preparing and executing critical tasks which can be bespoke, one-off and expensive; as a consequence these will often be coupled with the pressure of expected success. Although there are no formal staff line management duties, the successful applicants will be required to manage or supervise staff involved with tasks and occasionally deputise for the Team Lead with appropriate support.
Ideally applicants will be qualified to HNC/D or equivalent in maths, physics or engineering, or have completed a suitable and relevant apprenticeship, with an interest in data management and data capture instrumentation. Familiarity with the Trials environment and the ability to work in often adverse climates is advantageous. A sound knowledge of Safe Systems of Work, Test and Evaluation Ranges and trials safety is definitely advantageous, but not essential.
We require an articulate employee who is a strong communicator and team player, effective in equipment care and support processes. You will need to be self-motivated and have the flexibility to work at other sites around the country on occasion. Possession of a full UK driving licence is a key requirement.
