We are looking to enhance and grow the team in Chesterfield with people who have a sound technical background and share our enthusiasm and determination so have a vacancy for a Senior Engineer with experience of the design and maintenance of major highways.

The team is currently engaged on a number of interesting and challenging major highways projects including Highways England’s Regional Investment Programme.

The services that we offer to clients include the full range and scope of highways work from feasibility stage through the development phase and planning and DCO process, preliminary design, detailed design and site supervision including Design and Build schemes.

As a Senior Engineer, you will be a self-motivated individual who will be responsible for leading a small design team within a large project. You will need to adopt a flexible approach and be able to work away from Chesterfield for short duration to suit project needs. The role will suit an individual who is aspiring to take a lead role in delivering high quality projects assisting the Design Lead in the development of schemes.

Job Responsibilities:

An appropriate level of technical expertise is required in order that the job/project accountabilities listed below can be carried out to the expected standards:

*

Undertake highway design in accordance with UK standards and best practice including DMRB and MCHW

*

Delivery of specified project outcomes on time, within budget and to the quality required;

*

Ensuring compliance with relevant technical standards and undertake checks of designs completed by others

*

Managing the workload and the technical management and oversight of design team members

*

Undertake Health & Safety duties, fulfilling all responsibilities for health and safety in design including preparing designer’s risk assessments

*

Technical management of tasks within the wider design team including management of junior staff or sub-teams.

*

Construct project information models in a BIM environment

*

Work collaboratively with colleagues and clients, using tools for information sharing such as Common Data Environments

*

Writing and overseeing the preparation of contract documents and technical reports

*

Communication to junior team members, the Project Manager, wider organisation and external parties

*

Coaching, mentoring and developing junior staff

*

Managing and developing both internal and external client relationships

*

Identification and management of project risks

Minimum Requirements

*

Knowledge of standard engineering practices, techniques and procedures

*

Understanding of design principles and the ability to practically apply them

*

Significant technical design experience across a range of disciplines to DMRB

*

Demonstrable understanding of Health and Safety including CDM

*

Client focus being able to anticipate future customer needs

*

Excellent oral and written communication skills

*

Site supervision experience would be an advantage

*

Experience of 3d design modelling

*

Experience of Bentley OpenRoads / WinDes / ProjectWise would be an advantage

Preferred Qualifications

*

BSc, BEng or MEng in Civil Engineering

*

Professionally qualified or working towards the professional qualification
