Our teams work on both major design projects and local network improvements and undertake services on national to local frameworks; including those with Highways England Area 10,13 and 14 to the A66 dualling programme and the Midlands Highways Alliance (MHA).

The Role

We are recruiting Senior Highways Design Engineer for the Area 14 Design Services Contract. In this role you will work within the Highways Design team and alongside our client Highways England. As a Senior Highways Design Engineer you will provide effective support and assistance to your Design Team Leader on a variety of highways schemes and take the lead on a number of projects. With a growing team of 30+ staff, we work collaboratively with Highways England in a shared office space in Darlington, working flexibly around our core hours of 10-3 with agile working possible.

As a Senior Highways Engineer at Amey Consulting, you’ll see your work progress from early design to the Construction, with every project being different from the last. In a typical week you will:

* Drive effective health and safety practices within your team

* Liaise with the Client and our Community partners to ensure solutions that are developed are suitable for buildability and maintainability

* Lead on the delivery of scheme design, as well as providing support to the Design Team Leader within the design team on various design duties including:

* Surveys/Inspections

* Feasibility and other technical reports

* Planning, programming and cost estimation

* Design production

* Production of design schedules

* Reviewing and amending design drawings

* Production of Specifications

* Supporting development of Graduate Engineers and Technicians

* Work to programme to deliver specified designs on time

* Prepare technical reports (e.g. Feasibility/Options Reports, Assessment Reports and other technical reports)

* Represent the business stream in multi-disciplined project teams

* Assist in the preparation and monitoring of the budget for projects including the planning, monitoring and reporting of project resources

* Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with the client and other relevant stakeholders

* Represent the business stream in multi-disciplined project teams

* Assist in the preparation and monitoring of the budget for projects including the planning, monitoring and reporting of project resources

* Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with the client and other relevant stakeholders

* Ensure innovation and best practice is highlighted and adopted where practicable

* Ensure compliance with all relevant technical standards

* Carry out site surveys, inspections and supervision of junior colleagues on site

* Keep up to date with your own personal development to ensure the natural growth of the team

We want to hear from you if:

* You have a Bachelors or Masters degree in an appropriate subject

* You have Chartered or Incorporated status held with an appropriate professional body

* You are an accredited trainer with a relevant professional institution, e.g. Delegated Engineer for the Institution of Civil Engineers

* You can demonstrate developed experience and expertise within the relevant technical field, probably gained in a Civil Engineer role or equivalent

* You are able to demonstrate an ability to produce or oversee the production of technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements

* You are experienced in undertaking project related tasks associated with health, safety and welfare, e.g. Construction (Design and Management) Regulations Technical report writings skills and associated knowledge

* You are experienced in the application of technical governance procedures within a consulting engineering environment

* You have knowledge of technical governance procedures and how they are applied within a consulting engineering environment

* You have the ability to lead design on schemes with support from Graduates and Assistant Engineers

* You have the ability to solve problems in collaboration with the Client and other stakeholders
