Job Description

Role and Responsibilities

1. Undertaking desk studies, design of ground investigations, compilation of ground investigation tender documentation and contract administration
2. Site supervision on ground investigation fieldworks and liaison with ground investigation contractors
3. Interpretation and verification of ground investigation data and development of geotechnical design parameters
4. Production ground investigation reports and geotechnical design reports in accordance with EC7
5. Liaison with other project team members (design and construction) to develop best-value engineering designs and clearly communicate identified project ground risks and mitigation
6. Undertake various geotechnical analyses and design, produce calculation packages, specifications and drawings for construction
7. Production of qualitative and quantitative geo-environmental risk assessments (desirable)
8. Mentoring and supervising graduate geotechnical engineers and civil engineers undertaking geotechnical design.

Additional Notes

We have a diverse array of projects ranging from £100k to £15M in both clean and wastewater networks, treatment and infrastructure. We are looking to recruit a geotechnical engineer into our Leeds office and bolster our team delivery capacity for Yorkshire Water. You will be the key point of contact for geotechnical matters on Yorkshire Water Design & Build framework and will be responsible for geotechnical inputs across a wide range of projects. This will include extensive liaison with internal and external clients and stakeholders.

You will be supported by an existing Geotechnical team distributed across seven MMB framework contracts with some of the UK’s largest water companies: Northumbrian Water, United Utilities, Severn Trent Water, Anglian Water, Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water and Thames Water. Further to this you will part of the wider Mott MacDonald global Geotechnical Practice hosting a wide variety of technical experience and knowledge.

Candidate Specification

Essential

* Strong academic background, with a good civil engineering or related bachelor's degree (BEng/BSc) and a higher degree in geotechnical engineering or engineering geology (MEng/MSc)
* Strong geotechnical and engineering geological design competencies, ideally in the water/wastewater sector
* Chartered Engineer/Geologist (MICE/MIMMM/Geolsoc)

Desirable

* Good communication, report writing, team working and problem-solving skills
* Innovative and pragmatic in the application of your technical skills
* Confident personality, with the ability to liaise with clients and supervise contractors
* Design & Build experience
* Experience liaising closely with construction teams
