ABOUT THE ROLE

As one of the world’s leading engineering, professional services and technical consultancy firms, at WSP, we’re passionate about the big questions. And big answers, naturally. For us that’s all about reaching beyond the expected to do work that’ll make a profound impact felt long into the future.

We’re looking for someone to join our Ground & Water (contaminated land) team in Glasgow. The successful candidate will play a key role in the day-to-day delivery of projects; working closely with and being supported by team members, project managers and directors from across the whole of the UK.

The position would suit a candidate with a broad contaminated land background, including development and infrastructure projects from desk study through investigation and risk assessment to remedial design, implementation and verification. Projects range from one off desk studies to managing ground investigations for both planning and design input on multi-million pound schemes, or for Part IIA purposes. Ideally the candidate would have a good knowledge of Scottish environmental guidance and legislation with experience of the regional contaminated land market.

A typical week would include:

1. Business development - liaison with new and potential clients; both internal and external to WSP.

2. Preparation of proposals.

3. Project management of Phase 1 Desk Studies and Phase 2 Site Investigations from technical, health & safety and commercial perspectives including liaising effectively and efficiently with clients, subcontractors and WSP staff.

4. Project delivery both to programme and budget including preparation of reports and checking those prepared by others.

5. Support to and development of more junior staff within the Glasgow team and wider UK team.

6. Continuing personal development

ABOUT YOU

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

* A degree in the following or associated science/engineering disciplines:

3. Geotechnical Engineering

4. Civil Engineering

* A relevant post-graduate qualification (advantageous, although not essential)

* Ideally chartered or actively working towards such

* Has a broad range of experience with the skills to successfully deliver this role; we would expect this would require a minimum of 5 years post graduate experience

We’re looking for someone who:

* Is self motivated and looking to support and develop the existing team.

* Has a full UK driving licence (or equivalent) – this is essential to the role.

* Is comfortable working on-site as well as in an office environment.

* Has excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).

* Has the ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.

* Has the ability to ensure delivery on time and at the right quality, demonstrating attention to detail.

* Has self-awareness and understands their own limitations.

* Is able to effectively manage time.

* Has a strong work ethic.

* Can build rapport and relationships with peers.

* Can build trust and sustainable support network.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, practically minded, confident and self-motivated, with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Having flexibility working within a team setting is essential.
