Position Title Senior Environmental Consultant

Job Summary

AECOM are looking for an experienced Contaminated Land Consultant to join a national team who work on a large Oil Industry Framework, assessing sites under planning, other regulatory regimes, acquisition, disposal, and other drivers.

The role includes project management for a range of investigation and monitoring projects but also the opportunity to task or project manage larger remedial / construction projects. The role includes delegating to and helping to train graduate and consultant staff, but also provides the opportunity to work closely with and learn from Principals and Project Directors on the framework as well as our national industry experts.

This Senior Environmental Consultant focusing on contaminated land needs to have already moved beyond task management to direct experience of client and full project management responsibility, be confident in managing project finances and be able to demonstrate experience of completing all tasks to H&S, quality, budget and timescale expectations. Full training on the AECOM project management and quality systems will be provided as well H&S and technical training.

This experienced Contaminated Land Consultant will need to be able to demonstrate how they develop and refine Conceptual Site Models, their ability to communicate them in interpretative reports, their ability to assess risk and liabilities, and their understanding of contaminated land assessment under UK planning.

The role is ideal for someone who is seeking to grow and develop their established technical and project management skills, with opportunities to get involved with DQRA, Remedial Options Appraisal and remediation projects.

Minimum Requirements



Substantial experience of contaminated land work including field work, interpretation, CSM and risk assessment, and reporting and project management.


Project manager experience and track record of delivery to clients on quality, budget and timescale required. The vacancy includes a programme to become a certified AECOM project manager.


Previous experience of site investigation techniques and verification sampling essential.


Experience of working in a corporate environment within environmental consultancy an advantage.


Experience of working on petroleum sites an advantage.



Good understanding of contaminated land assessment under different UK regulatory regimes applicable for planning, operational loss, acquisition, disposal etc.


Good understating of health and safety aspects of contaminated land projects


Principles of CSM development and application, Stage 2 screening essential



Strong team worker, flexible and hard working.


Attention to detail and a thorough approach to work.


Strong communication skills at all levels.


Organised and able to manage multiple tasks/projects at a time.


Report writing skills in English essential.


Willingness and ability to learn new tasks.


Numerate and confident with financial reporting.

Preferred Qualifications


Relevant BSc degree (MSc degree preferred).


Full Driving Licence.
