Senior Engineering Manager - Mechanical

Would you like to lead an Engineering team in
the Astute Programme? We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Engineering
Manager - Mechanical in Barrow-in-Furness.

As a Senior Engineering Manager - Mechanical, you
will be part of one of the most exciting, complex and challenging engineering
projects in the world today where we’re harnessing the unique skills of our
workforce and drawing on years of experience to deliver a step change in
capability for the Astute Class of submarines. The Astute class is designed and
engineered to be the stealthiest submarine of her type, equipped with the
latest and most powerful sonar suite and secure communications facilities,
while exhibiting a low noise signature and optimum detection avoidance
characteristics.

This role will be within the Astute Class
programme, supporting the build of the new Class of Submarine, supporting the
operations teams and implementing capability enhancements into the design, as requested
by the Customer, the UK MoD.

Your main responsibilities as a Senior
Engineering Manager - Mechanical are as follows:

To lead an Engineering Team with responsibility
for Platform Mechanical Systems to ensure delivery of the Astute Programme

Manage the day to day activities of the
Mechanical Team alongside EDM Safety, EDM Propulsion, EDM Electrical, EDM
Nuclear, EDM Integrated Systems, EDM Combat Systems, EDM Payload and EDM
Transversals.

To use and manage available SQEP resource
within the Stage 1 Mechanical Team to solve emerging issues with the aim of
avoiding delays to schedule and delivery.

To work closely with the Office of the Chief
Engineer to ensure agree and gain approval of Engineering outputs which are
compliant with contractual and non-contractual requirements

Technical Lead for RFQ bids, including Phase
Review Approval

Maintain and provide authorisation for System
Design Descriptions for Astute Stage 1 Mechanical Systems

To liaise with both internal and external
customers as required, providing solutions to Engineering defects, design
queries and process improvement where necessary to maintain the Astute Delivery
programme

Working Closely with Operations, QA, QC, Supply
Chain, DTO, Projects, EPAD, ILS, MoD and Ships Company to provide Engineering
Technical Authority for Astute Mechanical systems

Specify and maintain Mechanical Team budget,
schedule and resource to meet Project Engineering tasking and being accountable
to the Control Account Manager (CAM)

Review and give TA approval to ships operating
documentation via SubSOC
