Senior Engineer, Structures Investigation - Exeter

About the Role:

WSP’s Structures Investigation Group (SIG) in Exeter is growing because of an expanding workload. WSP is looking to recruit a Senior Engineer to join the team and work on a variety of interesting and exciting projects.

You will be an integral part of the SIG project delivery team and will be key in the management of these teams to the meet the client’s brief. Your role will include identifying and prioritising necessary structural investigations, planning, organising, execution and reporting. Part of your role will involve the programming of resources and projects to ensure timely delivery, liaising with clients, stakeholders and other technical disciplines to deliver innovative designs within time and cost constraints.

In collaboration with other senior members of the team, you may need to provide cover for the team leader during leave or absence, reviewing quality to maintain the highest level of service and output in line with the client requirements.

Additionally, you will significantly contribute to technical excellence and innovation within the team. This will include mentoring and managing junior staff and supporting their technical career development aspirations, guiding, supervising and directing team members in technical matters to ensure delivery of projects and aid technical development of the team.

There will be significant opportunities to grow your career, including the potential to support large scale projects in the United Kingdom or overseas. You will receive support towards meeting your professional and personal career goals.

A typical week would include:

* Preparation of proposals and work scopes including pricing and programming

* Preparation of management studies including prioritising structures for further work

* Review and approval of method statements / risk assessments for site activities

* Execution of structure inspections and investigations by planning, undertaking site work and where necessary, supervision of sub-contractors and third parties

* Review and approval of schedules for laboratory testing of materials samples

* Checking and approval of CAD drawings and text for factual, interpretive and summary reports

* Delivery of project governance, admin and management tasks as required.

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

*

* Masters or Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or relevant associated field.

* Membership of a Professional Institution such as ICE, I Struct E, BINDT or similar

* BICS competence, or working towards this, would be highly advantageous

* Significant post qualification experience, including inspection, testing and monitoring of structures.

* Knowledge of relevant software and standards used in the management of bridge assets together with proficiency in the production of engineering reports is considered crucial.

* Fluent spoken and excellent standard of written English, confident communicator, excellent interpersonal skills.

* Knowledge of the management and delivery of Design and Build Contracts working with Contractors, working knowledge of contract procurement, specification, supervision and contract administration experience would be desirable.

* Working knowledge of Highway and Railway design standards, Eurocodes and design software packages.

* Experience of inspection, investigation, management, design and assessment of highway/railway structures / assets, including the procurement and management of structural investigations.

* Understanding of the health and safety legislation covering the construction industry.
