Position Title Senior Engineer – Highway Maintenance

Job Summary

AECOM’s Transportation team currently has a vacancy for a Senior Engineer within the Highway Team, to join a well-established and collaborative team working on the A168/A19 Dishforth to Tyne Tunnel DBFO Contract, based at the DBFO Company’s offices in Billingham, Teesside.

The team provides technical advice and support to the DBFO Company for the inspection and maintenance of approximately 120km of dual 2 all-purpose trunk road with sections of 3 and 4 lanes together with all associated highway structures.

AECOM provide experienced staff on secondment to the routine operation and maintenance (ROM) contractor to manage and supervise the maintenance activities. We would consider the role on either a full or part-time basis and are happy to look at a range of different working patterns. The Senior Engineer will report directly to the ROM Project Manager.

Job Duties

*

Undertake highway design schemes

*

Manage machine surveys and contract requirements

*

Management and supervision of carriageway strengthening and resurfacing schemes

*

Liaison with the public, local authorities and police

*

Prepare Traffic Regulation Orders

*

Report regularly on progress and attend regular meetings

*

Close liaison with the DBFO company and Highways England

*

Undertake visual condition surveys

*

Prepare detailed inspection and condition reports

*

Maintain records and drawings

*

Prepare traffic management drawings for highway resurfacing schemes and bridge inspections

*

Maintain the Network referencing system and drawings within Highways England’s Pavements Management System (HAPMS)

*

Maintain HAPMS construction records

*

Maintain network drainage drawings

*

Investigate drainage problems

*

Assist with incident response

*

Visual condition surveys at incident scenes

*

Coordinate with AECOM’s design team

*

Investigate and respond to Customer Requests for service

*

Issuing Works Orders for routine maintenance works

*

Co-ordination of winter maintenance activities

*

Carry out risk assessments and produce safe work plans

*

Contribute to the strong collaborative working ethos within the A19 team

*

Undertake projects adhering to a quality management system and ensure the they are executed to high technical standards and within budgets and programme

*

Guide and mentor junior staff

Specific Skills Required:

*

Strong background in design, construction or maintenance of major highways.

*

A Knowledge of highway maintenance systems and procedures including Highways England’s Routine and Winter Service Code (RWSC) and Network Management Manual (NMM).

*

Working knowledge of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB).

*

Knowledge of carriageway and materials testing techniques and interpretation of test results, including SCRIM.

*

Knowledge of the deflectograph survey and associated data.

*

Knowledge of HAPMS

*

A proactive approach to health and safety with a sound knowledge of current legislation.

*

Knowledge of traffic management practices.

*

Proficiency in the use of AutoCad and Microsoft Office applications

*

Experience delivering to quality, time and budget.

*

Ability to supervise junior staff.

*

High motivation

*

Good communication skills.

*

A good command of oral and written English.

*

A current UK driving licence.

Minimum Requirements

*

Have, or be working towards, CEng or IEng status. Support will be provided in progressing towards CEng or IEng qualifications through an appropriate professional institution.

*

NEBOSH certification (this will be supported if not)

*

CSCS Card holder (this will be facilitated if not)

Preferred Qualifications

* A relevant degree or HND in civil engineering or related discipline.
