JOB DESCRIPTION:

Abbott Diabetes Care designs, develops and manufactures leading-edge glucose monitoring systems and test strips for use in both home and hospital settings. Our product portfolio includes Freestyle Libre, a recently launched system that is revolutionising how people with diabetes around the world monitor their glucose levels. We are passionate about doing work that improves the quality of people’s lives.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Electronic / Electrical Engineer / Vision Engineer to join our Development Engineering group in a Senior Engineer role.

You will be working in an R&D environment contributing to the development of new manufacturing processes and novel products. Your main responsibility will be to provide Engineering expertise in the field of Vision Systems to a team of electrical engineers engaged in the research and investigation of technologies and processes that may help to improve performance or reduce production costs for current and new products. In this role, you will find yourself developing vision algorithms for automated online inspection, and assisting with machine control systems development. You will be involved in all aspects of vision systems projects from taking and scoping the initial requirements, generating the proposal and specification through to the design, development and installation of the solutions.

To be successful, you will need a formal qualification such as a HNC, HND or degree in an Electronic or Electrical Engineering discipline. You will bring a breadth of experience in Vision Systems and Automated inspection, specifically Cognex and Microscan. Further control system development skills in Siemens S7 or alternative PLC platforms would be beneficial.

You will also need to be able to demonstrate proven experience in a related role in which you have designed complex engineering solutions and demonstrated a creative and innovative approach to problem solving. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in a regulated environment such as medical devices, pharmaceuticals or healthcare.

As you’d expect from an innovative global healthcare company, we offer an excellent starting salary, and a competitive range of benefits including a defined contribution pension scheme, share ownership scheme, private healthcare, life assurance, and a flexible benefits scheme which you can tailor to your own requirements.

An equal opportunity employer - Abbott welcomes and encourages diversity in our workforce.
