Overview / Responsibilities

Wood's Clean Energy business is currently looking to recruit a Senior Electrical Engineer to join their expanding Electrical and Power Technology team based in Glasgow.

Role description

To support renewable energy project developments, providing appropriate engineering input at various points from design and implementation to testing and commissioning.

The principal responsibilities of this role are:

* Preparation and review of contract technical specifications; reports and drawings against customer requirements
* Design of HV and LV power systems including the specification and costing of plant, equipment and protection, industry regulations for design and operation
* Preparation of consultancy proposals and quotations and management of the Client relationships
* Assess costs and risks associated with the supply and installation of electrical systems for renewable energy projects
* Provide advice on testing and commissioning of plant and equipment in the form of writing and reviewing procedures
* Assessing the quality of work on site on the behalf of clients against a specification.
* Attending site meetings and surveys
* Preparation of reports including technical descriptions of electrical systems, calculations, single line diagrams, and drawings
* Follow the H&S rules and the Company quality procedures and standards.
* Supervision and mentoring of junior staff

The Candidate will have experience and/or knowledge in some of the following areas:

* Preparing and reviewing technical schedules for EPC/BOP contracts and Turbine Supply Agreements
* Switchgear, cables, lines, transformers and reactive compensation equipment at voltage levels up to 400kV
* Wind turbine technology including electrical machines, power electronics
* SCADA, industrial control and communication systems and standards
* Protection equipment requirements associated with transmission, distribution and renewable projects
* Electrical systems design standards and construction standards, practices and specifications

Skills / Qualifications

Essential criteria

* Degree qualification in Electrical Engineering
* Minimum 5 years relevant experience of electrical engineering on large construction or grid infrastructure projects
* Site Construction, Management or Commissioning experience of either grid connection or generation plant works
* Strong technical report writing skills and experience
* Project and proposal management and organizational skills
* Excellent communication skills and a flexible and proactive approach to work
* Strong people skills and experience of managing, supervising and mentoring junior staff members
* Knowledge of grid connection of renewable power generation systems
* Experience with power networks associated with major infrastructure projects
* PC Competent and experienced user of all Microsoft Office packages as a minimum
* UK Full driving license and availability to attend site visits
* The Candidate shall be fluent in English and resident in UK or willing to relocate in UK

Desirable criteria

* Chartered Engineer status
* Experience of electrical engineering for renewable energy projects
* Strong knowledge of connection processes for Distribution and Transmission Networks
* Working knowledge of power system analysis tools and design support software packages
* Consultancy experience on offshore wind farm design, submarine cable, HVAC and HVDC systems
* Design experience of HV electrical systems for wind and solar projects
* RenewableUK/GWO Sea Survival Training
* First Aid training
* CSCS or equivalent site safety passport
* Proficiency in a second language and international work experience
