Job Summary
Overall Purpose of the Post
To Lead, direct, manage and support AECOM & External Design Teams in the successful delivery of major multi-disciplinary design projects in the Rail Sector in the UK and internationally.
To help grow the Design Management team in the UK by demonstrating value at every opportunity and assist in managing and mentoring the team.
To assist the Design Management Director in developing the Design Management offer for Rail and Infrastructure Projects, ensure technical excellence, best practice and quality of service
To forge relationships with architects, engineers and designers across AECOM and externally to build relationships which enable business development and growth, securing a strong pipeline of work.

Develop and Manage the Design Management Team
Play a hands on role in the successful delivery of our projects, undertaking all design management duties including but not limited to:-

Establish Team Structure/Governance

Scope Delineation
*
Management of Sub-consultants/Supply Chain
*
Administration of professional service contracts
*
Establish and Implement Design Management Procedures
*
Prepare and Implement Design Programme and Progress Controls
*
Manage delivery of design information
*
Monitor and control project finances
*
Administer professional services contracts
*
Manage Change
*
Manage Communication/Information exchange
*
Drive design coordination/integration
*
Coordinate Information/BIM Management activities
*
Manage Design Quality, Risk and Cost
Competencies
The jobholder will be expected to display a range of competencies, both behavioural and technical in undertaking the role. These are included in the Design Management Induction Plan and include areas such as:

Comprehensive understanding of the design process, underpinned by technical excellence
*
Excellent leadership, management and communication skills.
*
A proven business development capability.
*
A collaborative, partnering approach
*
Robust financial management capability
*
Project and design scheduling skills.
*
Experience in the development and implementation of design management tools and procedures

In depth construction knowledge/experience
*
Enthusiasm, Commitment, Energy and Integrity

Proficiency in MS Project/Excel/Indesign and other relevant PM/DM softwares
*
Evidence of these being displayed will be reviewed as part of the Performance Review process and training and development needs agreed as appropriate.
Minimum Requirements
* The job holder will be expected to have extensive experience of leading and managing Design Teams in the delivery of complex multi-disciplinary design on rail and infrastructure projects. Additionally they must demonstrate extensive technical knowledge as well as excellent communication, people management and business development skills.
Preferred Qualifications
*
No specific qualification is required, although the role may suit candidates with an architectural or engineering background in rail projects (10+ years PQE) or an equivalent construction industry standard qualification that demonstrates an understanding of the design and construction process.
*
Bachelors of Degree in Engineering filed
