We have a brand-new opportunity for a Senior Civil Engineer to join our newest office in Southampton, as part of our successful national civil and structural engineering division.

You will be our first civils hire into a new civil & structural engineering team in this recently established office. So far, we have a dozen people based in Southampton representing a number of our core divisions and disciplines. Being a multidisciplinary office, you will have the opportunity to work closely with other disciplines, including Building Services, Transport Planning and Geotechnical Engineers. This is a rare opportunity to be part of a newly growing office, with the full backing, resource and expertise of a well-established, successful national business.

The way we live and work is changing. Perhaps you are seeking more remote and flexible working arrangements. Maybe you are considering a new location and quality of life. Is now the moment to realise your aspiration to live on the south coast?

Hydrock is an independently owned multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy of circa 500 staff, operating out of 16 offices in the UK. We are one of The Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For and a champion of well-being (note our recent Health and Wellbeing Leader of the Year award at the NCE100). We believe part of our success is looking after our people and our values help create a unique, dynamic, working environment. Feedback from our client listening programme and employee surveys indicates we are great to work with, whether providing a service to a client or rewarding employment to an employee!

Our national structural engineering business is led from Bristol, where our largest team is located, with established teams in Birmingham, Cardiff, Gloucester, London, Manchester, Plymouth and now Southampton. You can expect exceptional colleagues to work with and learn from and an interesting variety of challenging and sometimes prestigious projects.

Your role will include:

* Collaborating as a member of a growing multi-disciplinary consultancy
* Operating across a range of projects
* Undertaking scheme development, preliminary and detailed designs and project coordination
* Contribute or lead on work winning, budgetary control of project finances and preparing fee proposals
* Mentoring and supporting emergent team to uphold the quality and accuracy of technical and non-technical deliverables
* Working in a design office environment, while also playing an active role in design and site meetings, site inspections and progress reporting
* Good communication and effective liaison with clients, architects, contractors and regulatory/statutory authorities are therefore considered key attributes

What we are looking for:

* BEng, MEng, HND or HNC civil engineering qualification, with significant and predominant experience gained in a design office environment
* Working knowledge of Section 104, 278 and 38 adoption procedures
* Excellent analysis and technical design skills in AutoCAD, PDS, Civils3D and MicroDrainage
* Good understanding of technical software such as Civil 3D, AutoTrack, Drawnet and any other industry standard software
* Experience working with residential developers
* Knowledge of UK planning procedures and experience of providing technical support to secure planning approval
* Experience of securing technical approvals from highway and drainage authorities
* Strong written and verbal communicator
* Self-motivated team player with good people skills

What you can expect

Collaborating with, mentoring and learning from inspired and motivated colleagues. A great team, office and employer (check out our 2020 wrap up here). A genuine opportunity to develop and to be recognised and rewarded.

The remuneration package will include a competitive salary and employer pension contribution, 25 days annual leave (with the option to buy/sell up to five days), healthy living bonus, well-being bonus and a wide variety of flexible benefits. There are also little things like a paid day off for good causes and free fresh fruit in every office.

We have several events at team, office, regional and divisional levels, and our annual ‘Challenge Day’ when the whole company comes together for a paid day of fun! You can check out our most recent Challenge Day here!

A career with Hydrock offers you the chance to achieve your potential in a strongly people-focused and values-led business that provides great opportunities for professional and personal development.

An environment in which everyone can thrive

At Hydrock we embrace diversity and place wellbeing and inclusion for all at the heart of our culture. Offering our people flexibility is an important factor in achieving these aims, so we encourage everyone talk to us about any ideas which enable you to balance your personal commitments with your responsibilities at work. Please let us know your current and/or desired flexible working arrangements in your covering letter, so we can discuss how this could work for you in this role.

We consider all applications on an individual’s alignment with the required qualifications, knowledge and experience outlined in this job advert, without regard to any of the protected characteristics. So that we can provide everyone with a fair selection, assessment and employment experience, please make us aware if you have any physical or neurodiverse condition for which appropriate reasonable adjustments can be made by us.
